Need help figuring out Net Carbs!

I am on day 3 of Phase 2 and loving life so much more now that I can have yogurt and sugar free Jello and popcorn! I now look at carbs on everything I buy. I could use some pointers in trying to determine what is concidered low carb.

Thanks,

Jessica

Hi,

I am not an expert on this but if I am wrong someone else please help. I think you subtract the fiber and sugar alcohols from the carbs. Do not subtract the sugars only the sugar alcohols. Sometimes there are no sugar alcohols (only sugar). Sugar alcohols are absorbed differently into your blood stream. Hope this helps. Cathy

From what I've read, 3 gms of carbs per serving, or less, is considered a good choice.

3 carbs or less i don't think is right. in condiments and such, 3 grams of sugar or less is appropriate. Do you have the approved list? It's been floating around here somewhere:)

I've read about 3 gms of carbs in the interviews with Dr. A (posted in the FAQ thread), and just found this from Prevention.com as well, about the "3 carb rule".

It looks like counting carbs is much less important on most of the food items (other than the condiments) than looking at labels for glycemic index (sugars), and keeping those sugars low on the choices we make.

When reading the prevention post I notice that Dr. A. says that if you are still confused about counting carbs the 1-3 carb rule only applies to salad dressing and mayo. Maryann

Thank you for clearing that up Mary Ann. I was thinking the same things regarding condiments as well. It's nice that everyone can talk about their opinions without feeling like you are getting your hand slapped at every word.

Does anybody know the correct answer then, for the original question?

that's in reference to dressings and sauces though. you can't use the 3 carbs or less rule with legumes, veggies, whole grains, and such.
