Need help figuring out Net Carbs!

I am on day 3 of Phase 2 and loving life so much more now that I can have yogurt and sugar free Jello and popcorn! I now look at carbs on everything I buy. I could use some pointers in trying to determine what is concidered low carb.

Thanks,

Jessica

I had to dig very deep for this answer, but I believe I've come up with a post that will do the trick, for all of us!

Were you able to find the information in the book or through the websites? I get ideas from the board, and I check out things on the foods to enjoy list. I don't do popcorn as a snack, but I'll have it as a treat sometime in the near future (like when I go see the final Martix). Yogurts... i just added those back this week, but i haven't eaten them yet. They were the no sugar added Blue Bunny Brand... some on here eat the Dannon Fit and LIvely kind (did I get that name right?). It's a lot of trial and error. I have successfully added Whole Wheat pitas, dried apricots and apples, slow cooked oatmeal, low carb milk, carb smart bryers ice cream, and Arlond Health Nut Bread. This week has been my biggest increase with cream cheese, mini bagel, whole wheat flat bread, yogurt, and a small container of chocolate milk for a treat.

Anyone else like to weigh in?

That's precisely why I was wondering about Net Carbs. I am delighting myself with the Dannon Lite and Fit yogurts and but they have more than 3g of carbs and yet they are allowed. I have yet to add back bread and pasta, but only because I do not miss them in the least. I am eating yogurt, sugar-free Jello and pistachios for snacks along with popcorn (Smartfood Light) and cheese. I am dying to find the Breyers low carb ice cream but can not. Where do you find it? And what about those skinny cow ice cream bars. Are they allowed?

I am going to make that pumpkin puding someone posted about last week. I am so excited!

And I am STILL totally confused about Net carbs and how many carbs are concidered safe!!

Jessica, the simple fact is that on SBD, carbs are safe and carbs are good.

Here are a couple of previous posts on the subject. One is from Dr. Agatston about sugar alcohols:

The other is a board discussion on net carbs:

One person said that she read that net carbs was a marketing gimmick with little scientific proof to back it up. I've emailed her regarding a source. Stacy (aka pelirroja_65), are you still reading this board?

The deal with net carbs is this: it's the fancy term for "digestible carbs"...fiber is not digested so there for it CAN be subtracted. That is from a college nutrition book that I do not have on hand at the moment to quote. Sugar alcohols are a different story since they affect some and not other. They don't affect me...but that's me.

The sooner you realize you don't count carbs on this plan and you choose from the approved list, the sooner you'll settle in and not sweat the numbers. Atkins count carbs, not South Beach. Look in the ingredients for whole grain whole wheat when looking into cereals and breads. The yogurt sugars are from lactose and fructose (milk and fruit sugars) which are lower on the glycemic index compared to table sugar.

Do some looking around at the sites others have offered and you'll feel better. I research and research a topic myself to make sure the facts are straight and credible.

I don't know about y'all, but it's the simplicity of the SBD that makes me breathe a sigh of relief, feel motivated, and to believe that I can make this a way of life.
