Please say it gets easier!

I'm on my 4th day of SBD and today I find that I want CARBS! I'm not a real big carb addict to begin with - I don't drink soda, I don't eat that many sweets, I really don't like bread or potatoes that much, but I do love rice - so you'd think I'd have an easier time with this, but I feel so dissatisfied! I'm not in danger of falling off the wagon but, unless this feeling passes in a few days, I might be...

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Maria

Hang onto that wagon! You truly should get past the worst of this by tomorrow, and certainly by the weekend. It took me about 3 or 4 days to settle into it.

Hi Maria,

I know just how you feel!!! I am on Day 5 and did really well Days 1-3 but then last night (Day 4) I wasn't hungry but just had cravings really bad. I ended up caving in and having a dish of ice cream. Then I had to deal with how angry I got at myself. I know it would be easier not to have ice cream or other goodies in the house, but I have two teen sons who love the stuff. I tried to have some "good" things when I got the cravings...but you know how it is...when you crave something, you aren't satisfied until you have it, so then you end up eating those other things plus the thing you craved! I have been trying to be good today...but am worried about tonight again. Nights seem to be worse for me.

I feel your pain! I have tried (unsuccessfully) the Atkins and the Zone and just felt defeated. I mean I just could not hack these diets. I had no willpower and felt like crap most of the time. Then I saw the SBD. I bought the book and a week later my fiance and I were off and running. The first part was the hardest. But knowing that in a short while I could have a bigger variety of foods made me feel better. If I wanted candy I would put it on the counter and walk away. I would pop some nuts and by the time I had eaten the nuts the craving for candy was gone. I don't have a ton of weight to lose so I did not lose a ton during the first two weeks but after about a week, I felt better and I have more energy. So to answer your question yes it gets a lot better. I kept thinking about the wheat pita or whole grain bagel I could have on phase 2. And to be honest by the time I hit phase 2 I did not want that anymore. I don't crave the bread or the soda and don't even miss the potato's. I think you just need a few days for your body to adjust and get used to the diet. After that you will feel a lot better.

It does get easier. It really does. I know about that carb addiction thing. THe night before TOM I wanted something sweet in the worst way. I ate everything low carb in sight. I felt bloated and awful. Two days later was Halloween. I allowed myself a treat. I was really, really careful during the day. DId not gain an ounce. In fact, was down another pound the day after.

The nuts, especially pistachios that really require you to work at them really helped. For the sweet cravings at night try sugar free Jello or sugar free fudgcicles. Don't go off the wagon. You'll be so happy. You really will see the results.

Best of luck!

Hi Maria, there's a slight mis-conception in lots of posts today about Carbs and craving carbs, and the idea that carbs are bad.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm having turkey chili tonight so that should help things a bit! I will do my best to stick to eat. Next week will be tough, however, because my birthday is on Wednesday and my husband has something planned (for the first time, I think!)

Does anyone know if jicama is ok to eat? I saw that there were a few recipes using jicama on www.shakeoffthesugar.net and I really love snacking on it.
