I am wondering the same thing. I have been on Phase 1 for a week and a half with only 2 pounds of loss (and I had lost those by last Wednesday). I am following the diet exactly, I swear. No cheating (not even a single piece of Halloween candy).

My only theory is that since a lot of initial weight lost on SBD and Atkins is water weight. Since I was already well-hydrated before beginning SBD (and thus had little "water weight" to lose) that my weight loss is minimized. I have also been too busy to exercise (I am a law student with finals approaching and a huge writing assignment due Friday). I did exercise Monday night, but that's it. Any thoughts?

Everybody is different and everyone will not have the same results. I think that metabolism and the amount of weight you have to lose plays a big part. I too was well hydrated already when I started this diet. I lost more when I started phase 2 then I did in phase 1 and now I'm in a stall. I also have a lot to lose and I know from past diets that I lose fast in the beginning. People who have a lot to lose usually do lose faster in the beginning. If you only have a few pounds to lose it will not come off very fast.

Thanks for the help. I am glad to hear you lost more on Phase 2 than Phase 1. I am worried that I will do Phase 1 for four weeks (which is what I've resigned to at this point) with little weight loss, and then I will go to Phase 2 and lose less or no weight.

I have about 30-35 pounds to lose, so I am not one of those people where 2 pounds is 1/5 of my weight loss!

I know it is not my thyroid because I recently had a problem with PVCs (premature ventricular contractions) where my heart would "skip a beat," and after several heart tests turned out normal (two EKGs and an echocardiogram), the cardiologist had my thyroid levels checked. They were "perfect," according to her. (BTW, PVCs are quite common and can be brought on by stress and high amounts of caffeine, among other things. But they have since gone away, and I am fine. All I have to say is thank God for insurance companies!)

Hello sweetbabyjustin,

I started on 10/2/03 and I've lost a total of 16 lbs. I've even gone off track just recently because of Halloween and still lost 2 more pounds. However, it may differ for you. I lost a lot of weight at the beginning then when I went to phase two I started to lose the weight slower. But still I look at the BIG picture and think losing 16lbs in a little over a month is not bad! Good luck!

I'm only on day 5 and already have lost 5lbs. I do have weight to lose (50lbs ish) but have been active in my weight lose prior to SBD. I was doing WW just before I started SBD. I was skeptical because I had been drinking my water and exercising but had only lost 4 lbs. in 4 weeks. Which in some peoples minds are OK but for the ones who want their weight off tomorrow 5lbs in 5 days seems like a much better deal. Now don't get me wrong I do know that this loss won't happen every 5 days but it sure feels good to see the numbers drop. Just have faith, alot of will power and the ability to make it happen. Only you have that ability. Good luck!!!

I have lost about 10 total (from 146 to 136).... But keep in mind, during phase I I was polishing off a half can of mixed nuts (or cashews) every other day!

Hi Amy,

I agree with the other posters, it really depends on a lot of factors, including how much you need to lose. My total weight loss goal is 83 pounds. I lost a lot (I actually can't remember!! I think it was 9 pounds! I should really write this stuff down! LOL)in phase 1, the vast majority of which came off in the first week. For the last five days of phase 1, my weight didn't budge. Once I started phase 2, I started losing again, almost immediately. Who knows, really, why that happened, but my gut feeling tells me that for me, phase 1 wasn't enough food. Of course, everyone is different, but my gut reaction to anyone considering doing more than 2 weeks of phase 1 is to suggest that they move on to phase 2 first. JMO!

Anyway, in total I've lost 28.5 pounds since Aug. 28. And my DH has lost 29.5 pounds in the same time period.

Good luck Amy!! Much success,

Jill K.
