I don't know. According to their website (www.chickfila.com), each store uses breads from a local bakery. I would wager it's probably not whole grain, but probably a better choice than some. This is one store where you can order a side salad in place of the waffle fries (thought I do love the waffle fries!).

Again, I have to comment, you Southerners ! The only Chick-Fil-A restaurant I've ever seen

It was a whole grain honey wheat bun according to their signs. It was on their chargrilled chicken sandwiches. Chick-fil-A resturants are a staple for just about any southern ladies and gentlemen. If I am near a dwarf house, I WILL walk through the small door if it works. lol. As for Carl, Jrs, we all call them Hardees down here. I think. Anyhow, I stay away from fast food as much as possible. Just stopped today for a treat on a road trip. YUM!

I've been to Hardees in South Dakota. I didn't know Carl's Jr. and Hardees were the same chain...maybe so? I also love In-N-Out burger,

It doesn't really matter all that much whether it's white flour or whole wheat flour. The grams of carbs should be the same and wheat flour is highly processed so the glycemic index couldn't be that much different than that of white flour.

If it were whole grain or sprouted grains only (like Ezekial bread for example) it would be a different matter.

It doesn't matter if it's white flour or whole wheat flour...huh?!? REAL whole wheat flour is whole grain, and that's what we're supposed to be eating!!!!!! On the other hand, enriched wheat flour is the same as white flour, except that it is unbleached.

Edited note by cmckslp: Apparently this post was found to be rude to some. I don't really understand what is rude about it; some wheat products do say whole wheat when they are not really whole grain. On this diet, we are supposed to be eating whole grain products. Enriched flour is unbleached white flour. What's wrong about stating facts?

Hi Catherine, I think the reason some people felt your post was rude was because of the 'huh' and the bolding. However, no offense taken here. I tend to be straight to the point and I never thought everybody would agree with me.

I am a certified personal trainer, I have done extensive reading on nutrition, and I have worked with nutritionists. When I post, I do so because I hope it will help someone but still, that does not mean I think everybody will agree with me.

As for the flour issue, if you take a grain and grind it into a fine powder (bleached or not), it is highly processed. If something is highly processed your body doesn't have to do much processing of it's own and you will get a quick rise in insulin. On the other had, if something is raw or has had minimal processing, your body has to do the work and your insulin will remain stable throughout the day (i.e. when eating veggies). I don't see how whole wheat can be whole grain. Whole grain really means that the grain has not been touched - as in it is still in its original form. I doubt that Chick-Fil-A will start serving bread that is full of grains because the majority of their customers would not like it.

If you want more info on glycemic index and grains in general check out http://www.mendosa.com/index.html and www.mercola.com.

Again, I know people will disagree with me and that's fine, but I don't see why we have to get upset with one another for stating opinions. Isn't that what the board is here for?

From the "Good carbs, Bad carbs" chapter, SBD book:

"Much of our excess weight comes from the carbohydrates we eat, especially the highly processed ones found in baked goods, breads, snacks, and other convenient favorites.

Ria, if you find the stats on this, would you post them so we can all hear?
