South Beach Diet

My husband and I are looking at starting the South Beach Diet. Can anyone tell us if this program can work to lose body fat but gain muscle weight? My husband is looking at a 4000 calories a day, however, follow the South Beach Diet. Is this possible with this plan?

Could you clarify what you mean please? He is looking to consume 4000 calories a day? please forgive me if I misunderstand.

Yes - he is working out and looking to gain muscle mass and lose some body fat. Make sense? Thanks.

No, it doesn't make sense to me, thank you. Maybe the gentleman who started his own support group out of Alabama could help more. I am not a body builder, so I don't know much about the subject. I'm just a toner and a runner. The figure of 4000 calories a day was shocking to me. Please, if I offended, there was not an intention to do so.
