I'm new to SBD... this is my first week. I need to lose about 60-65lbs. (a lot) and am looking for others to make friends with, send support, and share recipes with. I love cooking and I'm an avid exerciser. However, I was having trouble losing weight from exercise alone. I decided to give SBD a try and hope it will change my WOE and my life. Are there any diet tips that anyone can offer? I've had no problem giving up rice, pasta, bread, and potatoes. But goodness I sure do miss my sweets and pastries. I've followed phase one exactly and can't wait to go to phase two so I can have milk and fruit again.
Has anyone lost a lot of weight on this diet? I'm a little worried about the no calorie restriction... I've been eating only good carbs and no sugar. I hope that even without the calorie counting this diet will still work. I eat until I'm satisfied but should I watch my portions more carefully? Can anyone recommend a good salad dressing? I don't like vinagrettes very much. Thanks for any advice possible.

I certainly qualify as a "chubby buddy". My total weight loss goal with this plan is 83 pounds, to weigh 145 (I'm 5'9"). I started SB Aug 28 at 228, and I'm now 202. It's been pretty painless, though like you, I sure do miss sweets. I also miss pasta. I get my pasta fix by making lasagna using whole wheat noodles, and I get my sweet fix by having a bit of SF chocolate, or some other SF Splenda-sweetened snack.
I wish I could help you with dressings. All I eat are vinagrettes. All I can say is to look for dressings with no added sugars. I think if a dressing has 3 grams or less of sugars per serving than it's OK for SB. I'm not 100% sure on the number of grams... it might be 4 grams. Does anybody else reading this know?? Anyway, generally speaking, I've found that the more gourmet dressings, the "fancier" brands, sometimes have less sugars added, but again, I've only looked at the vinagrettes.
I think if you really follow the plan, eating reasonable portion sizes, and stopping when you're really satisfied, you will most likely lose weight. It seems hard to believe, but it really works. There are some people who are struggling, and losing at a much slower rate than Dr. Agatston promised, but they are losing nonetheless.
Welcome, and Good luck!! and keep us posted how you're doing!

And way to go to losing your first 26lbs. You are an inspiration to me. I'm only 5'5" with an hourglass figure which only means that I gain fat everywhere and equally. My body is an equal opportunity fat employer. LOL Yes, I will stick with it and see where it goes. Thanks for the info on the dressing. I was a little confused because other diets tell you to eat Low-fat dressings but those have the highest amount of sugar in them! So I've been using regular dressing, low in sugar and only sparingly. I can't wait to get out of phase one! I have already bought my loads of whole grain pasta and brown rice... but I'm still going to introduce these things moderately.
Hey Jill, did you lose most of your weight from you tummy like the book said? When I exercise my legs and arms slim down quick so Now it looks like I'm pregnant!!! LOL Well, thanks for being my buddy! If I find any good ideas for sweets I'll let you know. Right now I'm a little restricted because of p1. Keep the good work up.. you give me hope for myself.

I just started on the diet last Sunday. I weighed myself and had lost 10lbs. in the first week. I also would like to have a "chubby buddy" for support. My goal is about 100lbs.! Yikes huh! I loved sweets and suprisingly that hasn't been too hard to give up. Just this last Friday I was driving home thinking about tortillas! LOL! I swear! There are rough days true but I keep trying to tell myself why I'm doing this. Mainly for myself, but also for my daughter. I want to be here for her. And at the rate I'm going I won't be. So, here I am to support you. Just to let you know I didn't restrict myself on calories at all. I just cut out all the sugar and bad carbs. Ate as much vegies and monitored my meat intake a little. Started off with a 2 egg and mushroom and bellpepper omelet, snack was mozzarella string cheese, lunch was like broccoli and cauliflower, snack was either more vegies or 30 pistachios, and then meat and vegies for dinner. Lots of water too. It's been working pretty good. How have you been doing?
Good Luck (to both of us)
Bye!
I recognize you from the CP board! I am also doing SBD,for the last month, and am down 11.5 lbs. I too WAS a big sweets eater but if I get a craving, I make FF/SF pudding with pecan halves crumbled in it.......tastes great and satisfies the sweet tooth! :)

Thanks for posting. Yeah we can support each other. Great job on your first week! I'm only a few days into my first week and haven't weighed myself yet. I'm going to wait so I don't get discouraged. I know what you mean about the tortillas. The other night I cooked something new... I used Morning star grillers (veggie version of ground beef), and I sauted it with onions and taco seasoning. I chopped up fresh tomatos, green onions, and rolled it with the meat in lettuce. I made my own lettuce taco. LOL I was craving mexican food and this was as close as I could get for phase 1. It was quite delicious and I didn't miss the tortilla too much. I'm going to make lettuce wrap sandwiches tomorrow for lunch. Thanks for the advice and good luck.. it sounds like you're doing great!

Hi and welcome, Angel!

"Success is a journey, not a destination"
I am definitely losing the weight primarily around my middle, which is a good thing since that's where I carry most of my weight. I'm still wearing the same bra size!!, which is a good thing for me since I don't have a whole lot there. :-) Anyway, I know what it's like to look pregnant when you're really not... it sure isn't fun.
I have to admit that when I started SB I was very skeptical of the whole "losing the belly fat first" claim. I really thought it was a bunch of bunk, and I'm pleased to say that I was wrong, wrong, wrong! LOL. Seriously, I thought to myself "well yeah I'll lose the belly fat because that's where most of my fat is." But I've lost some weight on weight watchers and I lost all over. I remember needing a smaller bra before I needed smaller pants. With SB, I'm already down two sizes in pants, from an 18W to a 14W/16 misses, and the same bras, though not for much longer.
Angel, lots of luck, and no matter how hard it may get, just keep telling yourself "it's just for two weeks". That was my phase 1 mantra.
Hugs,
Jill K.
(228,199.5,145) <------ LOOK! Today I'm under 200 pounds for the first time since 1997!
Welcome to the beach. Don't let that 100 pounds scare you. Yes, it'll take some time, but you'll get there. At my all-time high I was 242 (that I know about anyway!). I started SB August 28 at 228, I'm now 199.5, and would like to get to 145 (I'm 5'9", small-framed). I'm definitely an instant gratification type of person, so I found it helpful to think of my overall weight loss goals in terms of smaller milestones. For example, 204 was one important goal because it meant my BMI was under 30, no longer medically obese. Until today, I hadn't been under 200 since 1997. 188 is another milestone I look forward to. It was my previous all-time high that I had reached in 1993. I lost a lot of weight after that and swore I'd never get that big again! I guess I shouldn't swear! LOL. I'll also celebrate when I reach the top of the weight range for my height, too, though I'll look that up when I get closer.
Anyway, sorry for rambling. Just wanted to show you how I've not let 83 pounds overwhelm me. Hope it helps, and welcome to the beach!
Hugs,
Jill K.
Thanks so much for posting here. Jill, Haylomama, Ga_beachgirl you ladies give me so much inspiration. "It's only two weeks" is also my phase one mantra. I'm only three days in but I feel great. I know I haven't gained any weight and that helps too. I'm waiting until the end of the week to weigh myself. I'm a size 16 or 14 misses. I knew I was fat and had to lose weight. I started exercising hard-core from Aug. but I actually gained weight! I went from 185 to 195lbs. it was all muscle I guess because I didn't go up in size. I actually looked trimmer and got rid of the bra-fat bulge. But the scale number really got me down because I want to lose 60-65lbs. So I decided that my diet had to change. As a lot of ladies here I've tried so many diets with no luck. I heard about SBD and found the message board here on ivillage. It was all of your testimonies and support that gave me the strength and inspiration to try the diet. If they can do it then so can I. If they don't cheat.. then neither shall I. Everyone here has been such a great example. Thanks to all.
Jill, you were really dead on when you mentioned the BMI. I recently found out that my BMI was 32 in the clinically obese range. I couldn't believe it! I'm healthy, active. It really came as a knock for me. So I understand what you meant that one of your goals was to go under a 30 BMI. It's one of my major goals too. And another of mine is to go below 155lbs. The weight I was when I got married. Good luck to all of us.
