When craving SALT... what do you eat???
| Sat, 11-08-2003 - 8:52pm |
Salty cravings are the most difficult for me to satisfy on this diet. I can't turn to nuts because I just don't have the will power to stop at 10. What are you eating when you get that yearning for something salty?
Thanks in advance!

I'm fairly new to SBD it's my first week and I'm in the restrictive p1. But I absolutely love Boiled Edamame (soy beans still in the shell). I put a little salt in the water when I boil them but that's it. They're great to snack on... I call them my veggie chips. I also like pistachios.. and you can eat 30 of them. I pre-bag them in snack bags so I'm not tempted to go over the limit. I hope that helps a little. Do you have any ideas for sweet cravings?

When I was in Hawaii, a native of the state served me salted edemame for a dessert. They were satisfying as
That is so funny you mentioned that!!! I grew up eating that dish and absolutely love it! Probably in part because I am Hawaiian and was raised on Oahu. My husband is in the army and we live overseas now in Japan which is the edamame homeland. LOL Thanks so much for reminding me of home.

Hi Angel!
ok it appears edamame has widespread popularity.... IF I can find them how long do you boil?
You're welcome, Angel! I was on Oahu--right in downtown Honolulu on South Beretania--at the time. One other "Hawai'i comment": ABC Stores!! :~)
Thanks for the welcome everyone. I find edamame in the freezer section near the beans and other legumes or in the oriental section near the egg rolls and such. If you can't find it in the shell it's also okay to eat just the beans. I usually boil 10min or so until they're soft. If you find them in the shell, you boil until the shell is soft and you de-shell the beans with your teeth. It kinda like getting the meat of the Artichoke Leaves using your teeth. That's another good idea! Artichokes are delicious and eating one is time consuming, good to snack on while watching tv. I eat mine with butter but some people use other things like mayonaise. Good luck! I hope you find something you like.

I LOOOOOVE fresh artichokes! I often eat them with mayo. Some lower fat alternatives include lemon juice or vinagrette salad dressings. Just squirt a little over the top after cooking. I haven't tried it, but maybe adding it to the water while cooking would infuse the flavor even more, like a marinade?
BTW: If you've never tried cooking an artichoke, chop off most of the stem before cooking, then boil in water for about 35-45 minutes or so. Check for doneness by inserting a fork into the bottom set of leaves, near the stem. When it is soft, the choke is done.
Artichokes!!!
edamame beans - - I just looked them up - - these are the yummy ones you get at the Japanese restaurants???
