When craving SALT... what do you eat???

Salty cravings are the most difficult for me to satisfy on this diet.  I can't turn to nuts because I just don't have the will power to stop at 10.  What are you eating when you get that yearning for something salty?

Thanks in advance!

They are soybeans. Could be just packaged and labeled "soybeans" too, perhaps!

Hello All!

Susan and Catherine, it's nice to hear that people out there are as crazy about Artichokes as I am. It's difficult to find nice, big ones here in Japan. Yes, Edamame is a japanese word.. it means Green Soybeans. So if you can find soy beans in or out of the pod this is the one we're talking about. I can honestly say that frozen is just as good as fresh. I don't know where you can find it fresh. Perhaps an oriental market? The japanese have a lot of different soy dishes. You can boil soy beans (without the pods) until they are very soft, then mash them and add sugar substitute. The japanese call this anco (or bean jam). It's healthy, legal, and sweet.

And if you're a tofu lover. You can buy extra-firm or firm tofu, cut into squares and deep fry them until golden brown. This is a good dish if you like tofu.

Good luck on your search for soy beans. Meanwhile, do you like eggs? I've been eating hard-boiled eggs with Mrs. Dash and that has settled my salty craving.

Talk to y'all later,

Angel

I normally go for the nuts, but tend to overeat them. I have found that olives are VERY satisfying. I especially like greek olives either alone or in a meal, such as greek salad. Try them!

Sounds weird, but salad - that's one of 3 foods that I have to have salty. The other two are McD's fries (which I don't eat anymore) and steak.

Hi Susan,

I'm so glad you found them. You can either boil them in water (I add salt to the water) or steam them until soft above the water. You can do both ways with the beans still in the pod. I boil it until the pods are soft then I let it cool a little. I actually eat it by sucking on the pod to get the salty juice and use my teeth to squeeze the soy beans out. This may sound weird but that's why I call them my Veggie Chips and you eat it kinda like an artichoke. Good luck and I hope you enjoy them. Since I've gone on this diet there are 5 bags of it in my freezer. I keep stocking up. LOL

I get edamame at asian grocery stores...and I boil them for 5 minutes, from frozen. I think the shelled kind is no fun, kind of like shelled sunflower seeds, yuck.
