I don't know about corn tortillas, since they are a no-no for me (allergic). Corn is more grainy by nature, but it is also high on the glycemic chart. High fructose corn syrup is immediately processed in the body as fat. Anyone know about corn vs. wheat, tortilla-wise, though? How about wheat tortillas? "Low carb" tortillas?

Also, aren't tortillas a Phase 3 food?

On the subject of honey, it has so many medicinal uses (i.e., colds, allergies, etc.) that I still use it to a certain extent. It's a simple sugar, if you're only looking at it as a sugar substitute. As others posted, it's not "more acceptable" as far as the glycemic index goes.

Hi Catherine,

Tortillas, assuming they are made with refined corn meal and/or refined flour, are definitely not a part of phase 2 plan. These things (or at least their main ingredients) are listed under "foods to avoid or eat rarely". I definitely don't want to give the impression that these items are part of the phase 2 plan, just that I have indulged once with a white flour tortilla, during the nearly three months on the plan. I figure that qualified for "rarely", ;-)

But guess what?? When I went grocery shopping tonight, I looked at Mission brand tortillas, and compared the flour to the corn tortillas of the same size. The corn has 22 grams total carbs (for two) and the flour has 18 total carbs! (Both had about 2 grams of fiber.) That was surely a shock. It really seemed that the corn ones seemed more "whole" and less refined. Appearances can be deceiving I guess, LOL. So considering that corn is so much higher on the glycemic index, I guess it makes sense that if I'm occasionally going to indulge, better the flour than the corn tortillas. I'll definitely stick to eating just one, though.

Editing to sign my name! (Time for bed! LOL)

Jill K.

I'm a tortilla eater, too. At times, I probably am far more likely to indulge in a tortilla than in any sort of bread, whether or not

I also indulge in a tortilla once in a while (once every 2 weeks), because our favorite 'social' outing was every saturday morning we'd go to the farmer's market and there is this guy who makes fajitas, quesedillas etc. to DIE for! So in the beginning we stkipped the market, and now that we're exercising and our metabolisms are faster, I find that going to the market for 2 fajitas every 2 weeks doesn't stop my weight loss :)

P.S. It 'might' slow down my weight loss.. but as long as I lose I'm happy. And if I can lose and still go to my favorite fajita dude, even better :)

Nancy :)
