I am interested in the south beach diet. What are you allowed to eat for the first two weeks and then after that? I want to get started but financially unable to get the book right now. So if someone could at least get me started for the first two week eating plan I would appreciate it. I am 240 lbs and I have never been this heavy but have been struggeling with my weight since age 18. I keep getting bigger and I am scared. I want so much to lose wt and feel better physically and about myself. I am in my biggest size pants I own and I REFUSE to go buy a bigger size. It is time to go down in weight and fit into my smaller sizes again. I hope everyone is getting the success they want from this diet and can share their success with me and some eating tips and recipes.
Thank you!!!!
Tina

Hi, and welcome!

I can very much relate to you. At my heaviest I was 242, and it was just awful. And you just get to the point where you say to yourself "enough".
In addition to the food list and link that GBG gave you, click on the links up at the top of the board. There is one called (something like) "How the South Beach Diet Works". This should also help you get a picture of the thinking behind the plan.
My other suggestion is that after you've looked it over, and get a sense of what your meals are going to be like, go shopping for the foods that you will need.
Including: Fresh veggies for salad, a good quality extra virgin olive oil, low/no sugar salad dressing (less than 3 grams per serving, I think, but check the food list to be sure), lowfat lunchmeats and cheeses, eggs, lean meats, and artificial sweetener (Splenda is great),etc.
Also, if possible, depending on your living situation, clear out as much of the junky foods that you can. If you can't, perhaps you can keep all that stuff in one area of the pantry and fridge, so you can train your eyes to not look there.
Oh, one more suggestion. I wouldn't start on a Monday. To me, Mondays are hard enough. LOL. I started on a Thursday. JMO. :-)
I'm sure there will be a lot more suggestions.
Welcome to the beach, and good luck. I also encourage you to join in on the threads with "chubby buddies" in the titles. We're a mini group with a lot to lose.

My tip : Measure yourself everywhere (bust, belly, thighs, arms etc) and write it down. I find that it's really encouraging for me to see that on the weeks that the scale won't go down, I sometimes still lose inches! And that's what it's all about! Especially if you're starting exercising and haven't in a long time you might gain muscle mass but you'll shrink :) only the measuring tape will tell :) I LOVE the measuring tape.. I'd rather be a heavy little rock, than a light fluffly marshmellow :)
