Did anyone else feel this way?

This is my 3rd day on SBD and I feel as if I'm doing everything wrong. I'm following the food lists in Phase 1, but I still feel like I'm eating all the wrong things.

I am a WW lifetime member (I have 20 pounds to lose due to a throid problem that has finally been corrected) and I'm so used to eating things with "low points", ie. bread, fruit, 2 point bars, etc.. I'm not used to eating nuts and eggs and cottage cheese. I also think I'm eating more than I did on WW. I feel as if at the end of the two weeks I'll actually gain weight instead of losing.

This seems too good to be true. Did anyone else feel this way in the beginning?

Hi there,

I'm a former Weight Watcher (though I never got to goal and became a lifetime member.) I have to admit, I had my doubts about SB, coming from that (WW) point of view. But since I had tried and failed WW three times (I would lose some, not much, get angry and frustrated with it, and then go on to gain even more), I decided to give SB a try.

Since I didn't come right from WW to SB, phase 1 was for me a reduction in my eating. But I was still skeptical, and all of the points of things would roll through my head. I would cringe when I put olive oil on my salad, and wonder how many points that was. LOL.

But all I can say is that it's working for me. I lost 9 pounds in phase 1, and have lost nearly 30 total, since Aug. 28.

Hope it works for you, too. Good luck!!

It is weird going from low fat to moderate fat. My father and sister had the same thoughts you did about not believing eating this way will get you to lose weight. They've each lost around 20 pounds each. I've also lost 20 pounds after switching from low to mod fat intake. You'll find it's easy to follow and much more satisfying.

Good luck,

It STILL feels too good to be true for me after - 24 lbs! hehe

Good Luck, and Welcome!

Nancy :)

P.S. I came from 'Atkins', so sometimes I still can't believe that I'm not counting carbs!

I've had so many issues switching diets - from WW to Atkins to Fat Flush....and since they're all different, I had such a hard time - remembering if it was ok to have this or that in conjunction with something else (i.e. cream...ok in Atkins, no-no in Fat Flush, couple points in WW) so then I'd worry about combining the wrong things (apples are ok in FF, but WITH bacon and eggs - BAD!). I became super paranoid enough to make an appointment with a dietician. I'm seeing him next week, but til then, SBD is keeping me calm and full with all the options.

Hi everyone:

Let me throw a little educational psychology at everyone trying to reconcile previous mindsets about different diets to SBD :-) It's easier to learn new information if you connect it in your mind to something you already know. So, if you're used to counting points for what you eat, go through the food lists and either assign the foods their WW point values or create your own point system for them, and then use that to plan your meals. Make sure that you're using the points to fit into the SBD system. For example, foods that are safe for Phase 1 would have the best point values, foods safe for Phase 2 would be slightly less valuable, and foods not safe till Phase 3 would have the least value. This might help you make the transition from purely counting points to thinking about the content of the food itself.

I hope this helps!

I lost 25 pds on WW.. But then tried a low carb diet. I felt the same as you do now but I gave it a try.. and it works.. Your body will transform in front of your eyes within the next couple of days.. watch and see.. go ahead and enjoy all the things that you couldn't on WW ...like meat!!! On WW one piece of chicken breast was like 6 pts.. back then I would eat only half to try and save some points but still feel hungry.. I love this diet! My body looks completely different from when I was on WW.. On WW I lost weight but still was looking a little flabby because I wasn't giving my body the proper nutrients like PROTEIN.. Now I look and feel better!

Good Luck!

Thanks Catherine!

I've been bouncing around for awhile :-) In college I worked as a tutor/nanny for elementary age kids, and when I graduated I went to work for a non-profit that teaches coexistence skills to teenagers who grew up in war zones (mostly Middle East), but there were too many admin and fundraising aspects to that job, so I left during a restructuring and went to teach preschool for a year. I liked teaching a whole class, but actually missed working with the teens (scary, isn't it?!), so this fall I went back to school to get certified to teach junior high and high school social studies, and am still working with preschool on the side. I'm taking most of my psych classes this semester, can't you tell? :-)

T.S.
