Did anyone else feel this way?

This is my 3rd day on SBD and I feel as if I'm doing everything wrong. I'm following the food lists in Phase 1, but I still feel like I'm eating all the wrong things.

I am a WW lifetime member (I have 20 pounds to lose due to a throid problem that has finally been corrected) and I'm so used to eating things with "low points", ie. bread, fruit, 2 point bars, etc.. I'm not used to eating nuts and eggs and cottage cheese. I also think I'm eating more than I did on WW. I feel as if at the end of the two weeks I'll actually gain weight instead of losing.

This seems too good to be true. Did anyone else feel this way in the beginning?

Psych classes are so much fun, though. At least, I think so. I love learning how the brain works and how different things are processed.

Anyway, I'm not a whole class teacher, either, which is one of the reasons I went into speech-language pathology--mostly small group, yet in an educational setting. Don't overlook special ed, either.

I do enjoy the psych classes...I had a few as an undergrad, but those were mostly in negotiation techniques (my degree is International Relations, which is why I have quite a few courses to go before my certification), so it is interesting to be working with the psyche as a whole.

I think when I get a permanent job with a district that will pay for my Master's, I'm going to specialize in behavior modification and abnormal psych. My mom was an aide in a special ed class for several years, and I've thought about doing that. I think I'm going to have enough problems in my regular classroom to last me awhile, though, I'm trying to get a spot in an internship program and my top three cities are DC, New York, and Philly! I'd like to start teaching in the next school year, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've never seen the Teachers board, I didn't know IVillage had one...where is that?

Take care,

T.S.

Teacher Shan:

Here is a link to the Teachers' Board in Work ivillage: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/listsf.asp?webtag=iv-wdeducation&nav=start. It's not a busy board, but very friendly.

Good luck! Regular teaching jobs are hard to come by in some places right now, but there are alwys a few. All areas of special ed are always wide open, though, it seems! I think ed psych is a great path...good that you want to be a general ed teacher first, and see what things are like on "both sides." I subbed for a year first, and did some teaching at a continuation high school.
