Big discrepancy in P.B. info!

In the Phase I enhanced foods list that I took off of Prevention.com and have been spreading all over the board, it says that a serving size of natural peanut butter is 1 teaspoon.  (I haven't been eating P.B., so have kind of ignored that one, personally.)

Then, from the official SBD.com site, I got the Daily Dish today (via email), stating that a serving size of peanut butter on SBD is 2 Tablespoons.   BIG difference!!

Nuts, Nuts, and Even More Nuts

Nuts are a healthy snack, yet not all nuts are created equal. Here are the suggested serving sizes for everyone's favorite nuts:

  • Almonds - 15 whole (dry-roasted recommended)
  • Brazil nuts - 4 whole
  • Cashews - 15 whole (dry-roasted recommended}
  • Pecans - 15 whole (dry-roasted recommended}
  • Macadamia - 8 whole (dry-roasted recommended)}
  • Natural peanut butter, chunky or smooth - 2 tablespoons
  • Other natural nut butters - 2 tablespoons
  • Peanuts - 20 small (may use dry-roasted or boiled)
  • Pine nuts (Pignoli) - 1 ounce
  • Pistachios - 30 whole (dry-roasted recommended}
  • Walnuts - 15 whole (dry-roasted recommended)

If nuts aren't your thing, then try a snack of up to 3 tablespoons of toasted flax seed, or up to 1 ounce of sunflower or pumpkin seeds.

Since the latest info (just above) is directly from the official web site, I'm inclined to believe the latter is the right answer, and that the Prevention.com list p.b. info, submitted by somebody on that board, was a typo????

What do you all think?  I think that 2 Tablespoons makes more sense.  Let me know the general concensus and I'll correct the enhanced list that I post.

Has anyone tried "Better n'Peanut Butter"? Found it at Trader Joe's. I'm so nervous about choosing peanut butter, because I'm not used to being allowed to actually EAT it! Although Trader Joe's selections were all natural, I guess I freaked because of all the grams of fat. This brand is:

Serving Size: 2TBSP

Calories: 100

Fat: 2.5g (no sat. fat)

Carbs: 13g

Sugars: 2g

I know in moderation there's really nothing that wrong with this - the only thing that bothers me is the carb amount, after seeing lower carbs on other people's PB posts. Am I just being neurotic? Just tell me to shut up and enjoy the PB!

The list that I have, in which I believe originally came off of the SBD website...

says that you can have 2 TBSP. of *Natural peanut butter* if you use in place of your protein for one of your meals.

Otherwise, the 1 tsp. of peanut butter stands when used as a snack.

Meg,

I saw the Better 'N Peanut Butter at TJ's this afternoon. It looks like the biggest difference between it and other commercial peanut butters is that the BNPB is sweetened with more natural and non-hydrogenated substances. However, maybe that doesn't really matter (did you happen to read the news post that runnermom found)? Anyway, I hope you're enjoying your peanut butter and that it tastes great!

Thanks to my peanut butter supporters out there, for giving me a bit more confidence with PB. The "Better N' Peanut Butter" was super, but I also bought the Smuckers All Natural that I've been reading about. The big difference is that Smuckers is certainly oilier naturally than the other - quite a shock, because I wasn't used to the thin spread. However, it seems a lot easier to NOT overdo the Smuckers, because you can't just dip a spoon in - you'd get soup!! The other is so easy to splurge on because its so thick. So, in the effort to stick to the diet, I'm going with the PB soup!!
