Slaves to the Scale

All right, I confess. I am a Slave to the Scale (S2 for short). Here's how bad it is:

I weigh myself every single morning, first thing. I only officially record it twice a week (Wednesday and Sunday), but I ALWAYS look. And, yeah, I've been known to sneak a peek later in the day sometimes.

Here's why: I'm from a wrestling family, and the boys weigh themselves up to four times a day in season on the official scale which measures to the nearest tenth of a pound. So once a day feels almost conservative to me :-) And, I just love the fact that now I weigh less in the middle of the day with all my clothes on than when I started, first thing in the morning with no clothes. I need that little boost sometimes.

So, ladies and gentlemen, I want confessions. How many other S2's are out there? How many other people are trying to rationalize this anti-SBD behavior like me? :-) Let's all 'fess up and band together. Forget about locking up our scales, the S2's are coming out of the closet!

You caught me,I weigh myself every morning so I guess I'm a S2er.I have a waist high doctors scale I write my weight down daily in the early A.M.to see what I have to cut out of my menu as I'm adding carbs every day being on Phase 2. My offical weigh in is on Sat. so I take the total of my daily W-I add them togerther and I adverage it out by dividing that total by 7 and I get my actually weight. Hugs Maryann

Not a slave anymore. I stopped that about 3 weeks ago. I can understand the rationale behind it, believe me. But I only check in twice a week - midway through, to see if any bad tendencies are developing that I can quash, and on weigh-in day.

Well, I am still waiting for our scale to get shipped to our place.. but I'm a slave to the measuring tape! LOL Every day , maybe twice a day I'll measure my belly to see if I lost any inches :) (When I began I had a 53 inch waist (yikes), and now i'm a 48 inch waist (still yikes hehe)

I see no need to rationalize my S2 behavior! I weigh daily and log daily, it is the only way I can keep control of my weight. I stopped weighing once - in 1996 - by 1998 I'd gained 50 pounds and was in total denial. Once I realized I was now fat (and 40) I began weighing again. Religiously, daily. It doesn't control me but it helps me control my weight.

Me too!! I think the motivation is that the numbers keep going down. So, it's a good thing all around. Sometimes I feel 'guilty' about weighing in every day ;) --- can you imagine!!?!! My husband is also on the beach, and he weighs in daily too.

I'm definitely one too. I cant figure out which is more motivating. Sometimes, I've been really good for five or six days and stayed away from the scale. Then, I expect to get on and see a change. If i dont, i become disheartened. On the other hand, weighing every day and being motivated by 0.5 lb movements up or down can be destructive too. I feel like every 3-4 days is about what i can handle either way. So i log the food intake daily and log the weight on that schedule. And, like the scale, my resolve waxes and wanes...

Hope

I weighed in every single day--more than once a day--at the beginning. I just wondered how this new way of eating was really affecting my weight. Now, I still weigh in almost daily. If I'm a within a pound or two of where I should be averaging, no worries. If not, well, then, problem and fix that food or exercise behavior.........!

Yep...I am definitely an S2. I do get discouraged or encouraged when it shows changes so when it goes up from the day before I could kick myself for checking because it sets me up for a "what am I doing wrong...and maybe it isn't worth it" attitude. But, the days it shows a loss gives me renewed committment. I just can't bring myself not to check every morning, first thing.

Yep! That's me! I'm only on day 4 of phase 1, but I've lost at least a pound each day(two today!) and it's really keeping me motivated. I may stop once I get into phase 2, because I know I won't lose as much and I don't want to get discouraged.

I remember seeing Richard Simmons on Jay Leno years ago and Jay asked him if he weighed himself every day and he said "Of course, I eat every day, so I weigh myself every day!" He even said he takes his scales with him wherever he goes! LOL
