Hi Gretel,

I used to have Splenda all the time but then I had stomach problems (leaky gut) as well as other issue and had to cut out ALL sweets, even fruit. Now when I have Splenda I can only have a little. Sometimes I feel nauseous, sometimes I have shortness of breath (I know it sounds weird). I did a little research and here is what I found:

http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_dangers.htm

http://www.mercola.com/2003/aug/23/splenda.htm

http://www.mercola.com/2003/nov/8/splenda_dangers.htm

Sorry if this is disappointing, but I figure people want to know if something could be potentionally bad for them. I was working with a nutritionist for a while (due to all the health problems) and he didn't like Splenda either. He said I would rather have sugar than Splenda.

I hope this helps.

Hi.....

Just thought I would let you know that I just read a few articles on SPLENDA......

Sucralose specifically.....I have been on it exclusively for over 6 months with the Atkins Diet. Thought it was the safest and best substitute for sweetening. Now it turns out that it might not be as safe as we were led to believe. They use CHLORINE to process it....and traces of the chemical (which is not good for human consumption and terrible for the enviornment) linger in the product. If you are experiencing side effects, perhaps you should think about using something else........or nothing. I am trying to take all sweeteners , or as many as I can, out of my diet. It is almost impossible to escape 100 %.....but if I take my coffee, tea, cereal w/o sweetener at leasst I am cutting down tremendously. Look for the article, or search for it. I am sure you want to be informed.

Be well.

I also read some articles, then read somethings about it on WEBMD and they seemed to approve it. I think this week Im going to keep a journal of what I eat and if I feel "funny" to pin point it.

I had been using two or three teaspoons if I made that riccotta creme, and nothing happened. I recently bought Carbsmart and that has splenda and I ate it alot last week. So maybe thats it.. not sure. I dont drink coffee with sweetner, nor do I really drink diet soda with sweetners.

Oh well, I'll have to see how it goes.

Thanks everyone for the responses!

I have no problem digesting sucralose, Equal or Sweet'n'Low. However I absolutely could not digest any of the sugar alcohols like manitol and sorbitol. Interesting since I have a Super sensitive stomach... also interesting because my IBS issues have practically disappeared since starting SBD. In fact, that's only just now dawned on me!

I have a freind who has been a diabetic since early childhood... she consumes sucralose and it has no effect on her and was approved by her dr. IMO, I think the radical doctors have a lot of gripes about many things... I was also told by my Dr. and pediatrician not to believe everything on the net as basically anyone can say whatever they want and there is no way to verify some of the things some people claim. Stick to names and websites you have heard of and know are absolutely legit. Let's put it this way, if I had a fatal disease, I am not so sure I would research it on the web, unless I went to trustworthy and recommended sites.

Me too, I know for me it's the veggies. If I remember to take my Beano, before I eat my veggies, it helps. It doesn't stop it completely, but it definitely helps.
