Wade Waters Vs. Stay on the Beach?

I thought it would be interesting to see who was going to wade the waters of the beach or stay on the beach for Thanksgiving.

I will be, if I am lucky, participating in a half marathon on Thanksgiving morning. I was sick this week, but I am telling you guys, ZICAM works wonders. Anyhow, I will be wading off the beach this Thanksgiving. My mom is an awesome cook, and I want all the goodies. I'll do it within reason though. You guys have read my posts and know I believe in giving a little now and again if you are ready.

Anyhow, just curious... any thoughts on wading or beaching?

I'm planning to wade, within reason. This is partly because I haven't told anyone in my family that I'm on the beach in the first place and don't feel like explaining it over Thanksgiving dinner. I'm going to be careful though and be sure I eat more of the healthy food there.

Take care,

Shan

Hi Ria and Shan,

I am going to stay on the beach for Thanksgiving. I asked my kids the things they couldn't live without for the big dinner and I am going to end up making everything I always have except for the candied sweet potatoes. Since I plan on being on my fourth week at P1 next week, looks like I will be confining myself to turkey, steamed brocolli and salad. :( I thought of making the October Pumpkin Treat for myself as a bit of a splurge. Ok...maybe a bite of stuffing (my fave!).

Ria...I totally agree about Zicam. I have spread the word how great that is to everyone I see sniffle or cough since last winter. The company really ought to be paying me to be their spokesperson!!! :)

Good luck all!!

ok.. if Rhonda is boogie boarding, I am soooo surfing! LOL

Actually, I am going back home tomorrow and am on "vacation" for 9 days. Although Im not going to be strict, I dont think im going to be that bad either. Why? Because Im not really craving anything. lol I think I have become used to not having certain things. I will, however, be going out alot with friends, family etc. I may be on the beach as far as food, but I'll be surfing with some beverages..LOL But if I do indulge in some things I already know the serving size is going to be nothing like I used to have, if any at all.

Im not worried about it to be honest.. why make myself nuts. Im going to be walking, riding my bike on the boardwalk, etc. As long as my pants dont get to tight, I think i'll be fine!

HAPPY TURKEY DAY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

Definitely wading, but only calf-deep. My servings will be portioned out with small spoonsful, not the big serving spoon. My indulgence is going to be the stuffing - I love it and I want it more than mashed potatoes (I'm going to make a small portion of the "fauxtatoes" for myself). Cooking all the veggies the day before, so all I need to do Thursday morning is pop birdie and stuffing in the oven and nuke everything else before serving. For dessert, I'm having pumpkin pie, hold the crust, and maybe a sliver of filling from pecan pie (both from a bakery - they bake for a living, so why must I kill myself on a lost cause; I can't bake for beans).

I'm also working out Thanksgiving morning while watching the parade - not a race, but my usual 3 to 4 miles on the treadmill/weights/abs/stretching routine, to remind myself NOT to undo all my hard work in one sitting.

I usually make a stuffing mix/sausage/apples/chestnut-and-other-stuff stuffing and load it with whatever wine I have on hand (turned it deep purple one year!). I recently saw a recipe where someone uses challah bread for the base and that sounds like a tempting change to make. I don't know too many people who don't love challah ...

I was going to stay on the beach, but my new born grandson had different ideas so I'll be wading also. Hope I won't be pull out by an undertoe. Let me explain,I was going to stay home for Thanksgiving with all the allowable good carbs and fats on my table, now we're heading down to New York to see my new grandson and the menu will be different. My DD mother-in -law will be doing the cooking and she not a traditional cook it going be HARD to stay on the beach as I don't know whats she cooking. Wish me luck I will definately need it. Maryann

Ria, it doesn't have to be "either/or".

This plan is not intended to be a ball and chain nor is it intended to be overly restrictive. At least that's the way I approach it.

You already have the knowledge to know which carbs to eat in moderation and those on which you can load up. However, if you want to endulge at Thanksgiving, I see no harm as long as you:

(A) Return to Phase I of the plan for few days to get yourself back on track, or

(B) Take the time to do some extra exercise that afternoon to burn off the extra glucose in your bloodstream.

YOU ARE IN CONTROL NOT the plan!
