Wade Waters Vs. Stay on the Beach?

I thought it would be interesting to see who was going to wade the waters of the beach or stay on the beach for Thanksgiving.

I will be, if I am lucky, participating in a half marathon on Thanksgiving morning. I was sick this week, but I am telling you guys, ZICAM works wonders. Anyhow, I will be wading off the beach this Thanksgiving. My mom is an awesome cook, and I want all the goodies. I'll do it within reason though. You guys have read my posts and know I believe in giving a little now and again if you are ready.

Anyhow, just curious... any thoughts on wading or beaching?

Maryann - Congratulations on the birth of your grandson! Enjoy your time with him, and don't sweat the holiday dinner - I think you've been so disciplined with this WOE that you'll apply the principles fine. Can your DD give you an idea what's on the menu? Will you be journaling while you're away? Will you be escaping the food to take walks with the little guy? Finding another thing to focus on while you're away from the familiar routine of home will be helpful. Just keep in mind that a celebration doesn't have to revolve around food. It's a lesson I'm trying to remember during this busy celebratory season.

Enjoy your time away....

Thanks for your post.

I have been doing this since 9/8, and I know the ins and outs of the program. I workout, run, and strength train and have a good time doing that and the Beach. I have been reading posts from people a little nervous about Thanksgiving, so I posed the question titled in this Thread. For some people, it is an either/ or thing. For me, it is a WOE that I know how to handle...reason I call it wading if I deviate from the plan a little. As for going back to Phase 1, I won't be doing that. Unless I screw up royally sometime between now and then, I won't be jumping back and forth, to and from Phase 1. Regarding exercise, I'll run in the Outback 1/2 Marathon 8am on Thanksgiving morning, so I think I'll be in a good position.

As for control, I know for certain that I am in control. Thanks for reminding me though.

I think she was just bringing up a topic for discussion, not approval:)

I am planning to stay on the beach for Thanksgiving as best I can, but I think I will probably test the waters!! The only thing I plan to indulge in is cornbread/WW bread stuffing. I can't wait!!!!!

I should have known better. I am the military, take charge, type so I may come across as a little too directive instead of being an encouragement as I intended to do.

Good luck to all of you. I hope you meet your goals and, by all means, never, ever, ever give up.

I am on day 5, so on Thanksgiving I will be on day 12. next week may be another story but I do not plan at this time to wade, swim, boogie, or surf, as historically it would be like me to sabotage self shy of a success. Frankly, I don't care for the expectation of all day eating anyway, so this is a bit of a relief. I will be in California for holiday, at aunt's house, and she has done this WOE before successfully. i feel certian she will encourage. for all of you that can indulge, congrats, and christmas will be there waiting for me. :)

Thanks for the advice and great job with your group,

I'll be on the Beach with a little bit of toe-dipping, perhaps.

I'll be surfin' out here. I may wipe out (fall off the board), but I won't worry about it. It happens to every surfer from time to time: You just get back on the board swim back into shore, and go out surfin' again. It's a natural part of surfing. (To tell the truth, I've never been real surfing in my life...did live at the beach in college...and now I've got Jan & Dean and Beach Boys songs running through my head...AAAACK!)

There was a "South Beach Diet Disaster" profiled in the last chapter of the book. This man went off the Beach for a special occasion and never returned. Dr. A's response was to the effect that

Well, since I have kinda been wading the waters for the past couple of weeks I suppose I won't need an umbrella, reading material, and sunscreen... I'll need a bathing suit and a raft!

Ok now, I was reading your posts to GA Girl about how most of us follow this diet a little bit differently, some more by the book than others. Well, as I have been one of the more "creative" South Beachers and had a cookie here and there, my eggnog latte with skim milk, etc... my goal was to stay this weight until after the holidays. For me that was good and realistic. I have been super, super good about all other food, esp. carbs though... and then lo and behold I step on the scale this morning (post pee, pre coffee and buff naked!) and 2 pounds lost this week! Woo Hoo! I am amazed!
