How did you come to choose the South Beach Diet as your way of eating?
It is a logical WOE, from a healthly perspective. I already enjoy exercising, and just needed the right way to eat to put it all together. I am reading "Eat, Drink and be Healthy" by Walter Willett MD Harvard School of Public Medicine, and am finding great similarity between the SBD and the findings of their years of study and best food choice recommendations. We are on the right track! Glad to be here with you all. Janet
I'm 32, live in Northern California, and have a fabulous DH (also on the Beach) and a 15-month-old DD.
I've been on SBD since June; I'm in P3 now, and I love this diet; I feel awesome!
Nice to meet everyone!
=) Stacy
I am 36 and have been married 6 years. I am a stay at home mother and I have two kids Rebecca 4 and Christopher 2. They are a handful, but they are wonderful and so much fun to be around.
I am American. I grew up in NYC and now live about an hour East in Connecticut.
We're a very close little family... unsure whether we'll expand it or not! My kids are great friends as are my husband and I. I am an only child and my husband is one of three with a litter of cousins. Now the kids all have their own kids and we get together with them in the summer and the holidays. My kids have so much fun with them.
I can not remembember the actual date I started SB, but it was a couple of weeks before Halloween. I did great on Phase 1 and lost 7 punds. I haven't lost any more, but right now I am more in the mind frame of maintaining through the holidays and then want to lose another 5 after the holidays. My body looks so different and I feel wonderful. The reason I am loosely following (alternating between Phases 2 and 3) is because I am very social and have a lot on my plate. I am in a book club, crafts club and am starting a gourmet cooking club. I also like to have a night out with the girls and go on dates with my dh. This is the first time in nearly five years that I am able to start doing those things that I enjoy. Anyhow, if I am eating out at night, I know what to eat in the daytime so that my weight won't fluctuate. This woe agrees with my lifestyle 100%. I never eat bread or pasta. Every once in a while I will have brown rice or kashi... this way, if I am out and I misbehave, I know that I won't regret my pleasures in the am.
Actually, my dh (husband) knew about it and suggested it. He wanted to lose 20+ pounds. He has lost 16 pounds. He needed something that was regimented and I needed something that was flexible. South Beach is actually both. He's in medical sales and travelling all the time, and can still follow SB very easily. He brings his food with him now... some ham roll-ups, cheese, low fat yogurts, etc... I can eat whatever I choose and the kids can too. I like SB because the kids do not know that we are on a "diet." Diet is a word I do not wish to have my dd (darling daughter) hear. I am really eating no differently save for eliminating the breads and pastas. My kids now eat only whole grain breads and have not had pasta in ages and do not miss it. (Only thing is that the kids still eat carrots... they are the few veggies they will eat! And of course they are allowed their sugared snack every now and then.) But really, the SBD is so family friendly even for those not worried about their weight.
I guess that's it!

How did you come to choose the South Beach Diet as your way of eating?
My friend started it a week before me and told me how good she felt. I was at my wit's end, exercising like crazy but not seeing any real weight loss. Decided to give this a try and I am soooo happy I did. It IS my new WOE!

I am going to the store after work today to start stocking up on veggies and fish, chicken, etc.
For those of you with young kids...how do you fight temptation with all that kid food in the house?
For me, the temptation was the worst during the first few days of phase 1.
I'm Robyn.
I'm 29 years old and currently living in Big D (Dallas, TX).
I currently living with the love of my life and future husband. We have a spoiled cocker spaniel (it's all my fault) and the sweetest lab/beagle mix.
I started the beach on 11/17. I lost my father a year and half ago after watching him struggle with heart and kidney disease for over 20 years. A recent visit to doctor revealed that my cholesterol levels were too high along with my weight gain. I have decided to put a stop to it now. I read about SBD in several magazines. After reading the book, it just made sense to me. The first week has been good. I do my official weigh in tomorrow. I wish luck to us all.
