I desparately need some advice -- I'm just finishing up week 3 (stayed on phase 1) and have only lost 4 lbs, all in the first week. Worst part is I haven't cheated -- really!! Not a crouton or a smidge of chocolate if you can believe it -- I've even surprised myself. If I had slipped at all I wouldn't be so upset. I couldn't believe that there was no change when I got on the scale today. And believe me, I have plenty to lose! There is diabetes in my family, I have high blood pressure and polycystic ovaries, so should be a prime candidate for this diet. Has anyone else experienced this frustration? Trying to decide if I should stick to p1 or move on to p2 and hope for the best. Thanks in advance for all your suggestions! I've never posted to a board before and am just amazed at all the support here. Not sure if I would have lasted this long!

thanks

my thought was to add in 1 allowed carb per day. today I had a Thomas' low-carb bagel w. tuna for lunch. a little spongy, but not bad and only 150 calories for the whole bagel. tomorrow I'm goint to try some oatmeal for breakfast -- believe it or not I've never had it before :-). but the thought of another egg was making me cringe!

Hi glsh7,

I am on my fourth week of P1 and am planning on gradually starting P2 this Saturday. I was thinking about the oatmeal, but like you have never had it. I've always assumed I wouldn't like it because it just seems like that thick goop would feel weird to eat. But, I'll give it a try. I've been getting tired of eggs the last few days, too, so have been eating a tablespoon of natural peanut butter instead. I am amazed how that holds me over the same as when I eat eggs and bacon!

Hi Cyndie!

pb -- yum :-). I think part of my problem has been too many nuts so I've been trying to stay away. This am I had 2 slices of turkey spread w. a thin layer of hummos and rolled them up. My little twist on the roll ups in the book!

I did find the McCanns that someone suggested at Trader joes and will use the recipe in the book (p2) w. milk and cinnamon. The oatmeal "pancake" might not be bad either! Anything's worth a try, right?

Hi Geri,

Even days I have the PB in place of breakfast I have been having the nuts in the afternoon and have lost 10 pounds in three weeks.

I, too, thought of trying the Oatmeal pancake...but funny enough, I'm not crazy over ricotta cheese either! Haha. But, I'm willing to give it a try. I'm not too old...yet...to change my opinions.

I haven't been able to find the McCanns oatmeal or the Uncle Sam's cereal many here have talked about. I think I'll try the Kashi cereal since my store carries that.

Have a great Thanksgiving!

Catherine,

Congrats! I didn't realize your goal was your high school weight. I think that the ghosts of our past selves are sometimes the hardest to get rid of, so it's great to hear that sometimes you CAN go back again :-)

glsh7,

Hi. in the spirit of your tag line "can anyone help?" i'll throw out an experience of mine that may be relevant to you. The absolute hardest part of this woe for me is the no alcohol policy. I have found (with *very* high correlation) that if i drink, even a glass or two of red wine in a week, it is much harder for me to lose a pound. I know the book says that wine is like any other carb. For me, it just doesnt work that way. I dont know if our body chemistries are the same, but perhaps that is a contributor to weight loss at a pace slower than you had expected.

Now, in spite of that slower pace, the good thing is that it will come off eventually, and be healthier for you if you adhere to the woe in a way that works for you. So, if a glass or 2 of red wine is an important part of keeping you on track, go for it. If your body is like mine, however, you'll just have to have different expectations in your head for how fast all of this will work.

Thanks Hope -- I'm open to all suggestions! I didn't have a glass of wine (or 2 :-)) until the end of w3 in p1 so I don't think that's what slowed me down. I guess my body just reacts much slower than most peoples do to diets. The only thing that has really ever worked for me was a very low cal diet (under 1200 calories). I just didn't enjoy being hungry -- imagine that! I'll keep it up because I have faith and appreciate all the support.

thanks
