Ok, I am a nursing mom-this is all new to me. YOu all suggested starting phase 2. But, my questions is how long does it take when you eliminate ALL carbs, in order to get rid of thsoe CRAVINGS. Is it really 2 weeks? B/c I was wondering if maybe doing it for a day or two would help, then go right into phase 2. It might be in the book-but am still reading. AS my name says-I have four boys-and they are ages 5 years to 7 months. SO am quite busy. But I want to eat better-so this plan sounds good in general. Also, I only need to lose about 5-8 pounds. I did try to limit carbs yesterday-and found I was pretty hungry-so I added a slice of sourdough twice. Maybe I just need to finish reading!

I agree with Cathy and staying away from the refined flour in white bread. It takes everyone a different amount of time to really detox, I think. The two weeks are to

Hey, thanks everyone! This helps alot. THe things is, I am a slow reader, and as I said, quite busy-but I am close to finishing. I just can't seem to get a lot read in one sitting is all. ANd the book is motivating me to get started-but I don't know everything yet. Someone mentioned oatmeal in the morning. I actually eat grape nuts and milk. It has protein in it, and I feel full for a while. DOes that mean it's probably ok for me-that I'm satisfied til about 10 am (I get up VERY early-usually I am eating it about 6:20 am)

Also-this is not relate to the diet-but I love the bigger font-how do you do that? Howare you guys sticking all these cute messages at the bottom of you notes?

Out of curiosity, I just checked the book in the glycemic index (it starts on page 70).

I wanted to butt in and say be very careful with the nuts if you are a nursing mom. Nut allergies are rampant. Our pediatric group -- and most in NYC and surrounding areas say no exposure to nuts until 3 years and that includes nursing. My dd had a peanut allergy (No history at all in my family) and I swear it was because I ate so much peanut butter for protein while I was nursing.

You NEED your calcium. Do NOT cut back, eat your fat free yogurts and your low fat milk. Dairy is not allowed in Phase 1. Perhaps you may want to eliminate all pastas, rices, breads, etc... but honestly if you only have 5 to lose it will come off while nursing. I would not, in your position, start at P1.

Good luck with everyting!

I had never considered nursing and eating highly allergic foods as a risk. However, my first son does have a peanut allergy-although before he developed it, he tested negative at the allergist's office, and he ate it like 5-6 times before having a reaction. SO I think it was not caused by my eating it while nursing. I did not go overboard on nuts anyway while nursing any of my first three. But, I have been eating more nuts this time around. I better stop! Of course, I may have already done damage. We do have a highly allergic family though-my husband is allergic, I am developing airborn allergieas and ashtma, and all my kids have eczema, reactive airway disease and one has asthma. Mostly I've eaten almonds-but I can get calcium other ways-yogurt, cheese, etc.

I cut down my wieght fast-but it halted a couple months back-my son is 7 months old-and I do have all my weight in the midsection-so this diet may help. Can't wait to really get goin on it!

Jessica,

You are so knowledgable about breast-feeding, and the health concerns of nursing mothers.

Yes, a lot of the cute fonts come from the extra package. I get it free, too, as a community leader (cl) in another area of ivillage. The moderators in the channel on which I cl asked us to promote the fonts and package. I thought it was a reasonable request, so I have been doing so. I also like using the creative fonts and such; they are fun.

Some of the pictures and such come from a website called "Smiley Central". It is not connected to ivillage in any way, though I did learn of it from another cl--who is also a regular poster here though not a cl here
