Should I wait (& another question)...

I am full of questions, huh?

Okay I want to know...I am having family come from out of town for Thanksgiving. I have not started the SBD yet but I want to as soon as possible. Should I wait until after Thanksgiving? I am a real bread and sweets eater and if all that food is there, Phase 1 might not be a good idea! Once it's gone and I am more in control of what's in my house I'm sure I'll do better. Whadya think?

Another question: Is your whole family doing this WOE? How do your kids like it? I have an "anti-veggie" eater in my house! Despite my numerous attempts and sometimes threats (no dessert), my 5yo DD will not eat them! Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, do you cook carbs for them? My kids enjoy Ramen noodles and Mac & Cheese. My husband says he'll try it but I'm afraid he'll change his mind after a while and I really want to give this a whole hearted attempt. Anyone with a Significant other that is not following this WOE.

Last question: Do you find this WOE more expensive? I ask because, we eat a lot of carbs (potato and rice side dishes) in my house, and these are of course less expensive. Do you find that buying larger amounts of meat (which obviously cost more), and the low fat dairy stuff, increases your grocery bill?

Oops, one more....someone mentioned having a Word doc with a lot of the vital information? Can I possibly get a copy of that?

Thanks again!

Hi Jessi and welcome.

This is just my opinion based upon myself --- I would wait until Friday after Thanksgiving :). I just know I would not be able to control myself and would feel terrible that I blew it within the first few days, probably fall completely off and then not get back on again.

I have a husband and daughter and semi-daughter who are not on this WOE. I make the potatoes/rice for them and I just choose not to eat them. I load up on veggies for me - and they eat what they want for veggies. I happen to be one of those people who really like the SBD surprise mashed "potatoes" so I usually make a batch/week of those and can eat them with my dinners. It is really not hard to do SBD if other people are not doing it in your house because so many foods are allowed.

I guess it is a bit more expensive because I do eat more meat now and less processed foods, but I am looking at it this way --- I will spend less on my health issues later :)

Welcome

Ellen

Hi Jessi,

I am on W4P1 and have two sons 19 and 17. What with their schedules and social life and primarily because they had no interest in this "healthy crap" (kids!), they have been tending to grab their own meals and I just cook for myself. I have found this to be fairly expensive, because I have to still buy them their meals they like plus the things I need. Not only the meat but I have found it expensive to keep fresh veggies, nuts and cheeses around. It would be easier if I wasn't still buying the boys their cookies and ice cream. Here's a hint, too...if I have to buy them goodies that I don't want to eat, I just buy a kind that I don't like.

Good luck to you!

I have sorta started today...had 2 eggs and ham for breakfast and a salad with grilled chicken breast for lunch. 2 Bottles of water down so far. Brought pistachios to work for snack. and plan to have another salad for dinner. How's that sound so far?

I doubt I'll make it all the way through Thanksgiving dinner but I'm certainly gonna try. I'll try not to have a carb-fest I'm gonna go full blown on Monday though. Hope hubby sticks to it with me...we'll see. I'm so excited. I think I can really do this!!

Jessi-

one other weird piece of advice: i would start on a day that you think you can be in control of your life and where, if you felt weird, you could sit down and relax. the no carb thing can make you feel a little strange for the first day or so. it goes away, but you should think about yourself and decide to start on a day where you can feel weird and deal with it instead of trying to stop it with sugar or other bad carbs. for me, that meant starting on a friday and knowing that i could be in control of my life on a weekend if i felt funny. good luck!

I would...but you could try adopting some of the diet now...enjoy you T-giving day and then give it your all!!!

Is your whole family doing this WOE?

It is just my BF and I...he isn't doing SBD...but is supportive...I do make him potatoes and pasta and as other have said just choose not to eat it...I usually have a big salad with dinner as well as a vegatable and I look forward to my desserts!!!

Do you find this WOE more expensive?

My grocery bill has definately gone up...but the scale has gone down and to me it is definately worth it...

Good luck and post often

Happy Thanksgiving

Kate
