I have very recently lost my father and in the time of his getting sick and passing away until now, about 7 weeks, I have abandonned most all of my good eating habits and gotten out of shape fast. I would like to drop about 10 pounds total. I have tried similar plans to this in the past and not really seen results in the first couple of weeks. But, now especially, I need to see some fast results to motivate me or I fear I'll stray.
Would you recommend just diving into the program (post Thanksgiving, of course) or would you recommend starting with something like a 3 day cleanse/ fast to get results to happen?
I'd really love to hear any and all of your thoughts as well as any anecdotes you've found to not stray when the cravings are mind over matter versus actual hunger cravings.
Thank you all very much. I hope you're all very well.

Hi Amy,
I am so sorry for your loss.
I understand what it's like to let yourself go during times like these. I gained about 115 pounds between the deaths of my mother in 1996 and my father in 2000.
I agree that you don't need to do anything before starting SB. Phase one feels very much like a "diet" but that's because it's meant to stop the vicious circle of sugar addiction. You don't need to do anything else. But phase two, once you get used to it, just feels "normal". Like Cathy said, it's a way of eating meant to be followed even after reaching your weight loss goals. The only thing different about phase three and phase two is basically that you can indulge now and then (I already do that :-), and that you find your own equilibrium... what works for you to maintain.
Good luck,
Jill K.

Thank you very much for your reply. I found your tips very useful.
I was wondering... I thought it was a nice touch that you ladies on the board include your starting weight, current weight, and goal weight info. I didn't realize you did this as yesterday was my first time posting on iVillage. I really like the accountability of it.
I know you're busy but I was wondering if you wouldn't mind if, when I start on Friday, if I were to send you a quick email each day, with my weight information and what I ate and did exercise-wise for the day. I feel like this type of accountability, especially to someone I don't know, will really help me to make this happen.
Would that be alright by you?
Please and thank you in advance for your consideration. I hope all's well. Have a great day.
