New here...NEED HELP PLEASE!

Hi everyone. Don't mean to bore you, but I just wanna give a quick bio of myself. I am 5'10 and have been lean my whole life. I grew up on icecream, burgers, snackfood, etc. and still never gained a pound. Probably because I was always so active. But even towards the end of high school I wasn't as active but STILL didn't gain anything! I thought I had good genes. ;) But once I went off to college, I started gaining fast...mainly from the fatty cafeteria food and 3am pizza and beer. So for the past 4 years I've been going up and down with my weight between 165lbs (my heaviest at age 18) and 145 being my lowest (my goal weight, which only lasted one time for about a week!). So I'm back at 155 and am getting depressed because I feel like I'm saboutaging (however it's spelled!) my diet. Once I feel like I'm losing, I start to eat bad again, who knows why?!?! I tried Atkins for a few days but felt extremely sluggish so I quit that. Lots of people have success on SBD so I wanna try for REAL. Exactly 2 weeks from tomorrow I'm going back home for Christmas break. I haven't seen my relatives since last Christmas, and I weighed about 148, so I don't want to look like I've gained weight!!! I want to be back to 148, or even better down to 145. I heard you can lose 8-13 pounds on Phase 1, for the first 2 weeks, so it's perfect timing for me I think! I just got frustrated on Atkins because I'm not a huge meat eater (I don't eat seafood or hotdogs) and felt like I was always eating turkey rolled up in cheese!!! AHHHH! I just felt like there was only so much meat I could eat in a freakin day! Can someone help me get on the right track with SBD and give any suggestions? I can't afford the book (typical broke college student...lol) so I am just relying on the boards. Thank you for any help girls!

Hello :-)

Welcome to SBD! We have an FAQ thread, which I'm sure someone will post here in a bit cuz I've lost the link (you can search for it at the top). You'll find the SBD foods to enjoy/avoid lists, which are the basis of this diet. The golden rule is: no processed sugar! That means no white flour carbs, no white sugar (Splenda will become your new best friend), and the first two weeks are pretty strict. After that you can begin to customize Phase 2 to what works best for you.

Check out the introduction and Phase 1 threads to get started. If you can, get a copy of the book from your library, reading it will help you understand all the heart healthy stuff you should be looking for :-) We're all here to help, but as far as I know none of us are cardiologists so there's a lot of information in the book that's best gotten first hand.

So, take a look around, jump in wherever you like, and welcome to the Beach!

Hey Collegechick,

I too, am new to this diet. Only have about 10-15 lbs I want to lose. Anyway, thought I might let you know that I bought my book on ebay...(cheap!) Good luck!
