Is SBD low-carb to you?

I have a question that I was wondering about today. Shan posted on another board regarding SBD and the low-carb label. I was wondering what you guys thought. I don't see it is a total low-carb plan because we don't count carbs. If done right, the only low-carb phase is the first, but I see this as more of a detox phase. Once you reach P2 and P3, you are adding and maintaining Low GI carbs and maybe some higher GI carbs on occassion. This is just my thought. In Phase 2, I have been enjoying slow cook oatmeal, whole grain breads, fruit, milk.... my mind trailed off... lol.

What do you guys think? Has SBD been properly labeled in the "diet world" as low carb?

Angel,

Yeah, things have gotten pretty heated over there. Couple of people who apparently have multiple personality disorder wreaking havoc ;-) Ria and Alison have been getting pretty scrappy with them lately, too. Personally, I find the whole thing funny. If I had that kind of time on my hands, I'd definitely be doing something more constructive than ripping other people's diets to shreds...I mean, whatever happened to good oldfashioned "yo mama" insults?! Now we're attacking food?! How lame :-)

SHAN!!!! lol! You me sound like Rocky Balboa! I get scappy in a nasty nice way when people dog me out. Yo mama!

Alison, well, she gets scrappy in an educational and sweet way when when she leave, you wonder if you were just 'told"!

Rhonda-

I agree with you. Although SBD is not no-carb in an unhealthy way, i do think it is definitely LOWER carb than the way americans typically eat. BUT, americans typically eat their way to obesity, as the press continues to tell us. So, the way i describe it is that it's really re-teaching yourself how to eat in a healthy way. Everything in moderation. A little more focus on what's good for you instead of what's easy. And, by the way, in the process, you eat less than you thought you needed and you lose weight.

When i have described it that way, the funniest thing that happens to me is that people tune out. Its not like i'm trying to convert people, but everyone thinks they already know how to eat in a healthy way. The thing is that, as we all know, we have alot to learn. (We did before we read the book, and we do now--that's why we keep hanging around here and asking for advice.)

Then, when they think they can tune me out, i tell them how much weight i've already lost and how much healthier i feel. That usually gets their attention :-)

The way that I interpret the SBD, even in Phase 1, is "good carb", "good fat", and "low-glycemic".

I think the label should be a "smart-carb way of eating" rather than a "low-carb diet". One that promotes eating the best quality carbs available: Complex carbs, which also happen to be the most filling and the ones that keep your blood sugar on an even keel for the longest time, rather than simple carbs, which blast your blood sugar high and cause it to drop quickly while providing less than optimum nutritional value. But in this quick-fix world, no one wants to see the finer points or pay attention to subtle differences.

I'm just enjoying being full all the time, working out like a sane person, and watching the pounds go away without having to calculate points or severely restrict my veggies, fruits, and calcium sources or healthy fat sources.

Overrunning the world with my opinions today....
