Hi,

I was all excitied about starting the SBD but I went on the WW chat room and they bashed the diet. They said it is like atkins and people quit after a month. I was so besides myself. Now, I am doubting whether I should start this diet or not. Please give input.

Thanks in advance.

I think we all agree it is a matter of personal choice. SB has personally worked for me. I am on my third week and have lost 9 pounds. I am able to sleep through the night because I'm not having leg cramps like I did with Atkins. I don't feel like I am constantly obsessing about what to eat like I did with WW. I'm eating things that I normally eat and just learning to make better choice.

Remember knowledge is power. I know that Atkins and SBD books are both available at our public library. Read the first few sections that explain the philosophy behind the diet and choose your weapon.

I wish you success with whichever route you choose. Also, I feel like I can guarantee you incredible support from the persons on the SBD board.

Do you own research concerning this lifestyle change which is what it is not a DIET. I am a diabetic on 4 needles a day. Started Gi in october and lost 5 lbs then on Oct 25 started SBD which i have lost Another 10 lbs. I am really enjoying this change. My blood sugar levels have been 4.2-7 which are excellent. i have started phase 2. I can count the times i have been hungry, they are not many. Good Luck in your search. This south beach lifestyle change is not atkins in my opinion.

Hi,Don't listen to the WW gang. They don't know anything about our diet. I tell you a little some thing about WW I was on that plan for 2 1/2 years with their point system and lost a total of 2 pounds altogher, losing and gaining and plateauing to no advail. Not knowing the carbs were making me gain. Than I had a serious conversion with my doctor and he told me to go on the SBD he said that he was on it and lost so I started on Aug 3 and lost 9 lbs. with 5 more to go. The south beach is a healthy diet, elimating the bad carbs and bad fat. Stay with us you'll losing weight asnd start eating healthy. Hugs Maryann

i finally found success with SBD -- i've been on it since 9/22 and am at 29 pounds lost (started at 180 - size 16 - and am down to 151 - size 10). i've done everything under the sun...WW, Atkins, Slimfast, etc., failed miserably and didn't last more than a few weeks on each. i guess this has worked for me because i don't view it as a diet, but a lifestyle change. i am working out 6 days a week, too, and feel like a brand new person. hope this helps.

Hi aspenice,

It's really sad that people take things so personally and have to automatically trash what they disagree with and often do not even know about. It's crazy!

I know nothing firsthand about Atkins, but my experience with WW wasn't so good. I think maybe I lost around 20 pounds at most before giving up in frustration. On WW, I felt angry and resentful. It just didn't work for me. I absolutely hated counting points and journaling, both of which made me obsessive. I'm already obsessive and extreme, that's how I got so fat! LOL. Plus, I don't want to just eat a tiny snack-sized snickers bar for an occasional treat, I want to eat the whole bag! nor do I want a half cup of pasta, I want the whole damn plate! LOL. Anyway, I always ended up gaining the little I lost back and then some.

Since starting SB Aug 28, I've lost 32 pounds, going from a size 18W to a 14 Misses. Like others have said here, this does not feel like a "diet" to me. Yes, phase 1 was hard, especially since I had horrible eating habits before I started. But once I got over the first few days, it wasn't so bad. Now that I'm on phase 2, this just seems normal to me. And the really surprising thing for me is that now I *can* occasionally eat things I wouldn't have been able to handle otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I have to follow this plan, and I'm sure if I let myself have treats too often, I'd probably trigger the addiction cycle again. But if I just have something occasionally, and have it with or right after eating something with proteins and fats, I'm OK.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Hugs,

Jill K.

Please don't let these ignorant people decide what diet to be on for you.

I agree with you Cathy. We can't have all the fatty food was want. This is why these kinds of WOEs are getting a bad name in the health industry. Meats, cheese, milk... all low fat.
