cl-squirtsmama so I shall introduce myself.
My name is Melissa but I go by Mel to my family and friends so since I'm hoping a lot of you will be my friends I will go by Mel here too. I'm 31 years old and live in Minnesota (brrr!) with my DH (Mike), 12yo DS (Sidney) and 4yo DS (Anthony). My DH has 3 older kids you may hear me talk about every so often... Christopher (19), Steven (17) and Kate (21, married with 2 little girls). So yes, that technically does make me a Grandmother.... EEK!
I am also a CL on the Pets Channel - Puppie Board and have been there for a couple years. I have become very interested in the SBD since my Mom's cardiologist told her to check it out (she had heart surgery this summer) and my blood pressure is high for my age, weight, activity level. I have been lurking on the board for a while know and you ladies sure know what you are talking about! What a great group and I'm here to help with the support. :) I saw that people were upset there wasn't an active CL on the board so I applied. Here I am.....
Monday, I put my husband on this diet and joined him to see if it would make me feel better and lower my BP, we'll see. DH needs to loose weight and since I'm doing all the work for lunches and such he will go along with it.
So I can get to know the rest of you, please introduce yourself!

Welcome to the Beach and thanks for joining the board as a CL. I look forward to getting to know you. I'm a 38-year-old full-time student. Right now I'm taking an overloaded semester and have very little time for the board, but in about a week or so that'll be over!! Can't wait! Anyway, I have a DH, and five feline furkids!
I've been on the Beach since Aug. 28, and have lost 32 pounds. And I'm about 46 pounds down from my all-time high which was in 2000. I'm very excited about SB. I was very skeptical at first, but my gut feeling told me to give it a try. Dr. Agatston's descriptions of why some of the low fat/high carb weight loss plans are hard for some to follow really hit home, and plus I carry the majority of my extra weight in my middle. It seemed like it was meant for me. I'm so glad I tried it. And by about one month of the program, I no longer felt like I was "dieting" or sacrificing in any way. I finally *got* that it really is a WOE.
I hope your mom is doing well with SB, and with her health issues. And I'm so glad you played around the BP machines! See, curiosity doesn't *always* kill the cat! ;-)

Thank you for the welcome.
You are sooo clever! ;-)
Yes, I'm going for a B.A., with dual majors in Spanish and in Philosophy. I have an A.S. in Computer Science/Engineering that I got in the mid-80s, and worked in the Information Technology field for 10 years. I really never liked it, and started to hate it more and more. When my mother died in 96, shortly after turning 60, I realized that life is too short, and decided to leave the field. Didn't really know what to do, so I started taking classes and voila. The studying has gone on a lot longer than I expected, but it's worked out for the best. For a long time I was a part-timer while my dad was sick. For the past couple years I've been full-time. Next year I'll be part-time because I'll only need a few more classes to graduate. Then I'll be looking into grad school, but I still don't know in what. LOL. My family teases me for being a "professional student."
My kitties are: Pookie, Misty and Shadow (sibs who were my father's until he passed away in 2000), and Mina and Zoe (also sibs.) Misty is long-haired, the rest are short. I call Zoe my "puppy" because she follows me around everywhere and comes when I call her. She's a compulsive eater (mommy's girl!), LOL. She's very fat (13 pounds) and I worry about her. I'd hard to put one cat on a diet when you have five. LOL.
Lily sounds precious. She looks like my Shadow (that's her in the pic, right?)
It's great to get to know you!!
