Red and other wine....

I know that the SBD pushes red wine because of it's health benefits and tells you to avoid beer.  What about blushes like white zinfindel or white merlot?  They are a combo of red and white.... is that bad or should it be avoided?

Hi Mel,

I would say that strictly speaking they would not be considered part of the plan. The idea I get from Dr. Agatston's explanations about wine is that alcohol is to be avoided because of the way it behaves in terms of blood sugar. But, there are health benefits to red wines because of the antioxidants (white has almost none, and blush has only a dab.) The way I see it, and this is certainly my interpretation, is that he sees it as a trade-off.

Anyway, that said, I've had an occasional glass of white wine, perhaps once every two weeks or so, and I've been losing weight steadily. I know that there aren't the health benefits with the white, but I like it better. :-)
