Hi girls-

I'm new to this board and was wondering something about the South Beach Diet. I have tried many times before to cut out white sugar and white flour from my diet with no avail. How easy is it with this diet? And, I don't have much more than 10 pounds to lose but no matter how much I exercise, it won't come off! Will this diet help with that??

Thanks!

Hi Melissa. I've been on the South Beach Diet for almost a week now and it is very easy to cut out the breads. The first few days were kinda rough but now it's pretty easy. I started last Monday and I weighed myself on Friday and wow! I lost 6 lbs already. I really like the diet and it is actually working for me. I don't crave sweets or bread anymore and I don't really feel hungry too often either. I have energy all day too. I would definately suggest reading the book first though. I learned alot about eating and how your body processes food from the book. Good luck!

Melissa,

I used to just exercise and not worry about my diet, I figured if I was in good shape I'd end up the size I wanted to be. Wrong! It took me almost five months to lose 10 pounds, and I gained it all back as soon as I moved and didn't have my gym membership.

I started South Beach two months ago, and have lost 15 pounds so far, and am working out pretty often (3-5 days a week). I hadn't tried any carb-cutting diets before this because I loved my pasta and bread and all that and thought I'd never be able to do it. The first couple of days were hard, and ever since then it's gotten much easier. You don't have to give up all bread forever, and I've discovered that 9-grain whole wheat actually tastes better to me than white bread does now. It doesn't feel like a diet anymore at this point which makes it a whole lot easier. When I started, I was planning to stick with it just long enough to get totally fabulous and then rely on exercise to stay that way, now it doesn't scare me at all to think that I will eat this way the rest of my life.

I hope this helps!

Thanks gals!

I've been hemming and hawing about this, thinking I will try it, then I won't, but all your advice makes sense. I had 4 pieces of bread today, so I suppose today doesn't count as starting it, so I guess it will have to be tomorrow. This is probably the worst time of year to try a diet, but I gather that if I can make it through the holidays, I can make it anytime!!

thanks for your advice! I'll let you know how day 1 goes (tomorrow, of course)

Melissa
