Hello everyone!

I started this diet on November 30th, and it's now December 9th, and I really feel like i'm not losing any weight. I had a really bad old scale, but i may have lost at most 2 lbs in the first week. i went out, bought a brand new scale, and suddenly i'm 5 lbs heavier. i haven't cheated even once. and i'm about 1/2 through the second week and i'm really seeing no changes.

i'm afraid that because this diet is not such a radical change, and i only have about 20 lbs to lose, that maybe it's not working for me.

is there anyone out there, that has experienced this???

thanks!!

hi and thanks for your speedy reply!!! i'm truly stumped on this one...

but you've asked me a couple of questions....

water: at least 64 ounces every day for 10 days now

exercise: between 2-3 times a week

food: okay, well the first week i was eating the recommended three meals a day, although breakfast is always tough for me, then this week, starting on monday, i haven't had it, so here's a perfect example of what i've eaten.

today: breakfast - skim chai latte

mid morning snack - part skim string cheese - 1 piece

lunch - two slices of smokey turkey lunch meat, two slice of low fat swiss between two leaves of romaine lettuce with mustard

mid afternoon snack - 15 cashews

dinner - went out and had pan roasted chicken in some sort of brothy saucy, sauteed spinach, small dinner salad with balsamic vinagrette dressing

dessert - mocha ricotta dessert as described in the book

water - only thing i've been drinking all day except the above mentioned coffee

and that's it...what do you think?

I think you need to start eating breakfast everyday.

no more lattes, huh? that sucks-even though it's with skim milk. i had a feeling you'd say that. but okay, i'll cut it out-although, i must admit that i really didn't think that one skim milk latte would really affect anything-but i'll take your word on it.

as far as breakfast goes, i'm actually not hungry or starving or anything by the time i have my mid morning snack or lunch. so, if that's the only reason for not having it, then i don't think that's really a problem.

not a big enough lunch....hummm, and here i thought i was being good. i get hungry around 5 or 6, but you're right i am pretty hungry. i just got sick of the salads from last week. i had salad every day for lunch last week, and i was bored of it, so i thought i'd try something new. oh, and i didn't really eat the sauce on the chicken last night-it was kinda on top of the sauce, not on it. i'm really trying to be careful. :)

do you really think overall i'm doing things correctly, and i should start seeing results?

i can't thank you enough for your help and advice.

Hello and welcome!

I had something similar happen...I couldn't figure out why I had suddenly gained back a bunch of weight (we're talking a four pound gain in one day when I had been steadily losing to that point), and then I noticed my kitten in the bathroom. She likes to bat that little wheel that adjusts the scale setting, and she had managed to knock it out of whack without me noticing. I fixed it, and lo and behold, I had actually LOST two pounds again :-)

So don't take it personally, scales aren't always accurate. Once you get comfortable with one, just stick with it and that will at least give you relative information from your starting to your current points.

Good luck!

Yes I do think you are doing wonderfully and keep up the good work!

If you are sick of salads for lunch why not make some chili or a very lean burger or maybe so egg salad or tuna salad and wrap that in some lettuce (as the bread).

I was wondering about tuna and egg salad-the book doesn't really say anything about mayonnaise-at least not that i saw. i assumed that i could have it, as long as it was reduced fat. and i guess tuna and/or egg salad is more filling on lettuce as opposed to turkey and cheese.(since i've been having that fake sandwich thing with turkey and cheese).

so, i will take your advice, try some tuna or egg salad for lunch on some lettuce. and other than that, i guess maybe i'm just losing weight slowly? although, i haven't weighed myself since monday because i was so discouraged over the weekend(having only lost at most 2 lbs), that i thought i'd wait to be discouraged again. how much did you lose during the first two weeks? think i'm behind? i'm hoping maybe my numbers will be different as of saturday(the two week mark). although, i have decided to do the phase one for one more week-since i'm not finding it difficult.

how long have you been on this diet??

p.s. i acutally had chili for dinner the other night(not too much tomatoes in chili, i guess for this diet?)

I make my chili with the regular amount of tomatoes in it and since you are only eating about a cup or so at a sitting you will be ok.

As for the weight I've lost, I have no idea.

In order to lose weight you need to consume a minimum of 1200 calories a day. Anything under that, you'll gain weight because your body automatically turns it into fat. Try and drink more water than what you're drinking now, I bet in a week you'll see a difference.

Vary your exercises. Talk a walk around the block and then buy a skipping rope (they're cheap). Your body reacts to the slightest changes.

Buy a measuring tape to accompany that scale. Meausre/weigh once a week at the same time. In the morning after you empty your bladder with no clothes (or the same clothes everytime) on. I also take pictures of myself on the same day (the 21st) every month in my bra and shorts. Yes, a camera adds 10 pounds but when you actually like what you see in the picture you'll look that much better in person.

Good Luck!! We're here for you. ~Dana
