Today for lunch I had 1 slice of American cheese and 1 cup of cottage cheese with 1 slice of lunchmeat (ham). Is this too much cheese? I know that protein is unlimited. I read in one of Dr. Agatson's interviews that low-fat cheese in Phase I should be limited to the smallest amount possible. I'm on day 1 of Phase I. Have I already goofed??

I don't think you've goofed.

Low-fat American cheese is usually made with Skim milk.

Exactly how much cheese is allowed in a given day?

Portions aren't real specific on the South Beach Diet because we don't weigh, measure or count anything.

Instead of all the cottage cheese, put some tomatoes in it or something to make the portion more but not so much cheese.

Just my 2 cents here, but cottage cheese isn't considered a serving of cheese; it's a serving of protien.
