1) Newbies: what info did the veterans give you that was most helpful? Any questions you have that haven't been answered yet?
2) Veterans: Do we want to host an Adopt a Newbie thread or something like that immediately after New Year's? I think it's fabulous how everyone is so welcoming and tries to keep up with all the newbies, but with how fast this board moves I'm sure there are posts and questions getting lost, and that will be a lot of pressure on our new fearless leaders to keep up :-) So I thought maybe we could start a thread for any of the veterans who are interested in volunteering to "adopt" a newbie or two and help them through that new-resolution phase...what do you think?
Mel and Susan...sorry if this is stepping on your territory, I just thought I'd bring it up for discussion!

I think this is a good idea if enough people go along with it. Maybe all the veterans should post a "personal profile" that way the new people can team up with people they want. Those who have similar goals or needs (like Nursing moms, last 15 to lose, 50+ to lose, etc.)
Also, I'd like to know what constitutes "veteran status"? I've been on SBD for 5weeks and by the time New Years comes around it will be two months. I don't feel like a newbie but I don't think I'm veteran status either. I guess I'm an "in-between". LOL I feel comfortable with the my SBD choices and I try to help out if I can. Good luck and if you need some help then just let me know.

I think that's a great idea...and I like Angel's idea of letting the newbies choose someone based on their profile. I feel like Angel, though, in wondering what constitutes a veteran. I feel like I'm a tweener, too.

Hi Shan a great idea!
Susan :)
Good points! I like that idea, of posting profiles and giving people a way to contact us. I was thinking of "veterans" as anyone who's been on SBD long enough to feel comfortable discussing their experience with someone who's just started...whether it's been six months or six days :-)

You really have a great idea and good point about the busy season. I was just thinking about the New Years rush too. When I go to the gym it's getting really empty nowadays with the holidays coming up. I keep thinking that I'll be waiting in line for the machines after Jan. 1st hits. LOL I'll be on vacation but I'll try to keep posting during New years to help out. I'm always on the look out for new diet buddies.
After thinking about it, I understand what you mean about just being comfortable with the level you're at. It's important to see Phase 3 (or near it) people who have reached their goal or almost reached their goal to give us inspiration. At the same time it's just as important to see Phase 2 people, the ones who are fighting the good fight with us to help keep all of us motivated.
Oh, and I wanted to ask how your freetrainers.com exercise program was going? I went to the site and filled out a profile. It was a really informative and organized site. But my program is made of less exercise then I get now. So I'm not so sure I should down size my training regimen to follow it. Have you had that problem? Well, let us know how it's working out for you!

Just reading the various posts and
I noticed the same thing about my Freetrainers profile, so I've just beefed it up a little bit. Today was my second training day with that program, and I've found on both days that I'm using it as a supplement instead of replacement to my regular program.
I'm using the weight lifting routine because I always have trouble designing my own and knowing what sets I should be doing and whether I should target or circuit train. I think their cardio programs are on the "premier" site so I've been using my regular cardio program along with it (I get that off CoolRunning.com by the way), and scaling down or up the different weight exercises that I'm already familiar with or am just starting.
I also signed up for the abs program and found that it's less intense than the one I've been using. It's a 12-week program, so I'm hoping it will get progressively harder, and in the meantime I'm keeping up with my previous abs program.
I think I'm becoming addicted to exercise. Weird :-)

I think that having the veterans post a bit about themselves and letting the newbies choose who is more like themselves and their own situations would be fantastic. Keep us all posted on how this will work!

Count me in to adopt a newbie for the New Year, too.

I also think this is a great idea and would be willing to help out.
