Had an idea tonight...this board is obviously growing and just zooming right along, and all the New Year's Resolution Crew is right around the corner. So, two questions for everyone...

1) Newbies: what info did the veterans give you that was most helpful? Any questions you have that haven't been answered yet?

2) Veterans: Do we want to host an Adopt a Newbie thread or something like that immediately after New Year's? I think it's fabulous how everyone is so welcoming and tries to keep up with all the newbies, but with how fast this board moves I'm sure there are posts and questions getting lost, and that will be a lot of pressure on our new fearless leaders to keep up :-) So I thought maybe we could start a thread for any of the veterans who are interested in volunteering to "adopt" a newbie or two and help them through that new-resolution phase...what do you think?

Mel and Susan...sorry if this is stepping on your territory, I just thought I'd bring it up for discussion!

I know what you mean about being addicted to exercise. My problem always lies with cardio. I absolutely love to weight train. I've actually set up my own regimen by doing a lot of research, reading, and personal testing. There's a free site that offers a lot of info on weight training exercises (with pictures) It's OnlineFit.com and it offers exercises for every body part using different types of equipment (gym machines, stability ball, exercise bands, and free weights). If you're looking to add in different exercises to a particular muscle group.. it's a good place to start. There is also a really good training manual made by Muscle and Fitness magazines. Now Muscle and fitness her's has it's own women's training book too. You can find it on the magazine's website.

Well, good luck on finals! If you're busy and need people to help compile info or put up new threads... just let me know and I can do that for you. Take care and Happy Holidays!

OK, so now here's the next question :-)

Do we want to have a standard profile or have everyone just wing it? I think there are good points to each...in a standard profile, someone could look for things that are most important to them, and with winging it we could say whatever we felt like it. Or do we want to combine them and have a standard profile and leave the last question free-form?

My brain is tired, so take it away...anyone!

Hmmm.... you pose a very important question. I think a standard profile questions should be made and then leave the last paragraph for whatever the person wants to reveal about themselves. But instead of having all the profiles under one thread... why not separate them into groups? And if anyone feels that their profile fits more than one group then they can post a profile in as many as they choose. THis might be easier for the newbies to find someone with common goals and not be overwhelmed by too many posts.

Example:

Nursing Mom Veterans

15lbs or less to lose

50+lbs to lose

Or Support groups by age group, etc.

Some important information that people may want to know is:

Name, Age, Marital Status, State of Residence, Current Phase, diet/fitness goals, email address (point of contact), occupation, hobbies.

AND OF COURSE NO ONE HAS TO POST ANY INFO THEY'RE NOT COMFORTABLE SHARING.

Is that the kind of info you wanted, Shan? OH, and I checked out that coolrunning.com you recommended (that you got from Ria & Alison) and it was great. Hahaha.. maybe we'll be running our first 5K soon. Take care and don't stress! With the holidays, finals and your new job you must be so BUSY. And to top it all off you gave yourself extra homework with the cookbook project and now this. Hey, take it easy.... we all appreciate all the effort you put into this board. If you need help just let me know. My email is crookedhalo_grl@yahoo.com

Thanks,

Angel
