Starting Over

OK! I'm starting over, or I should say I've started over on Friday. After coming on this board I saw all the things I was still doing wrong in Phase 1 (about a week). I was drinking wine, not eating snacks, not eating breakfast, being hungry, went to the Christmas party and had wine and chocolate cake. But after about a week on the board you all have giving me great advise and support that I'm starting over the right way.

Went out Christmas shopping on Sat with the bf. We had a big breakfast with a spinach, mushroom, feta omelet. Moving on had a few nuts for a snack. (He's Greek) so we went to the Greek restaurant for dinner and had hummus (yum), cheese, mushrooms, and crab. It was all wonderful. (OH and only drank water with lemon - NO WINE! hehe) I took your advise on Sunday and while watching the game drank water from a beautiful pilsner glass I have that I never use. It did the trick, I didn't want any beer and was fine with celery and hummus as snacking. This morning I also took your advise and boiled some eggs and packed a few nuts to eat as a snack and yea!! I had a few mid-morning and not hungry 'till lunch rolls around. Just wanted to say Thank you and any and all advise is always good advise!!

Thank you for all your support. I'm trying to be good.

It doesn't seem like I'm losing though. But I don't have a scale so I'm not really sure. I'm going home to Cleveland for the holidays but I think it'll be safe because pops is on Atkins and mom is starting SBD. (I think we're on the same schedule in regards to phases. She just started about a week ago too.) Eating breakfast has been a great help. I've been boiling two eggs and having that, some celery and hummus in the morning.

Thank you again for all your support.

Hi, Kristina,

It sounds as though your second try is going much better than your first one.

Thanks Dusty,

Yea I can buy one... I think I will today because I'm heading out to Bed Bath and Beyond after work to get the bf his Christmas present and I'll get a scale too. I know whatcha mean by seeing the pounds come off and being more motivated to keep going then..... I'll probablly do that. (Don't laugh but I'm scared to get on it in the first place.... hehe... I don't want to know where I've been for the past 6 months!) J/K

Definitly this time around is much better and thanks to this board I've gotten some great tips.

How are you doing Dusty? Any additional tips you can give for the first week?

Cool! I will.. I will.. I'll get on that scale..... yuk.... but I will.

I made a great veggie chili last year... let me try and find the recipe and post it. My father is a big meat eater and would never try vegetarian chili, but I made this in the crock pot and had it sitting in the kitchen last winter. (I used to live above my folks office and the galley/kitchen was in the office part) So my father came in for a meeting and had two/three bowls not knowing they were completely veggie..... he LOVED it! I'll find it and post.

I would be careful with the chopped chilies..... they get REALLY hot..... I would put in a little at a time taste. I would also mix in all the beans you posted in the previous post. Good luck. Hope it helps.

Vegetarian Chili

Prep Time: 1 hour, Serves 6

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

2 Tbsp. cumin

2-3 Tbsp. each basil, oregano and thyme

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp. cayenne pepper

1 1/2 Tbsp. paprika

1 tsp. salt

2 large onions, chopped

1 1/2 cups green bell pepper

4 cups black beans

3 cups crushed tomatoes

1/3 c. finely chopped chili peppers

1 cup textured vegetable protein (TVP) granules (optional)

Chopped green onions, chopped cilantro, cheddar cheese and sour cream (optional)

Prepare TVP. Mix 1 cup dry TVP with 1 cup boiling water. Let sit for 5 minutes. Makes 2 cups reconstituted.

In a large pot, saute the cumin, basil, oregano, thyme, garlic, cayenne pepper, paprika, salt, onions, peppers, and garlic in the olive oil until vegetables are crisp tender.

Add the beans, tomatoes, chili peppers and TVP. Reduce heat to low, and let mixture simmer for about 30 minutes.

To serve, ladle into bowls. Garnish with chopped green onions, chopped cilantro, cheddar cheese and sour cream, if desired
