Back from my trip but aaarrgghhhh!!!!!!

Hi All,

I wrapped up my business trip early so I am back home a day early. I logged into this and cannot believe how many messages I have to read now to catch up!!! It may take me a while to find any posts that have now gotten buried...but I'll try!!! Times like this I wish I had a faster connection to the web!

Anyway, I had no access to a scale all week. My hotel room had a full kitchen in it, so I made my own breakfast (same as at home) and packed my lunch each day (a salad with chicken and SF Jello. We ate out each night, but I thought I was being very good. I knew when I was ordering things with cheese, that it more likely than not, wasn't LF or FF cheese, but I didn't think that would kill me. I got on the scale this morning and gained a pound and a half!!!! I was so bummed. I ate no bread, no desserts, no potatoes, no fruit, no dairy other than cheese. I was drinking 64 oz of water a day. I have no idea why I gained.

I was planning on doing P2 next week for Christmas week, but now I'm not so sure since I gained again.

AND...I travel again for the first two weeks in January. I can't afford to gain both of those weeks like I did this week.

I am so darn discouraged now.

Thanks for listening,

Cyndie

Cyndie,

Don't give up hope! It sounded like you made great decisions on your meals while you were on your trip. I know how difficult it is to eat out for dinner. We can't always be sure what their using. I try to stick to salads but with winter I really want something warm to eat for dinner. Actually if you look at one and a half pounds isn't too much. I gained 4lbs after thanksgiving and lost it all the week after (when I was back on track). There are a lot of things that affect weight that you gotta take into consideration. Do you normally exercise? Did you exercise on your trip? Have you tried increasing your water intake? Is your TOM soon?

I think you're doing great so far!!!! I know you've been on phase one for a long time. I think you should switch to phase 2, especially for Christmas! Maybe your body is going into starvation mode or plateauing because of the limitations of phase one. You should at least switch to P2 for Christmas and enjoy yourself. YOU DESERVE IT! You can always go back to P1 for New Years if you feel it will help you better. I think that you've done a great job making your own breakfast and lunch while away on business. Do you also include snacks? If you usually eat snacks at home you should also include them while you are away. This keeps your metabolism in check.

If you're still worried about eating out for your January business trips, then maybe you should bring a workout video or make a exercise routine you can do in your room (like stretchies, or pilates/yoga). The extra exercise you get should counteract the extra calories you might be ingesting. Good luck and don't get discouraged! We are here for you. It's great to have you back.

Hugs,

Angel

What an angel you are, Angel!!! Your mama sure did aptly name you!!!

If I had gone hog wild while I was away, I wouldn't have been shocked to see the gain when I got back. But, I was trying to be so good. I still had my daily snacks and would usually eat them while I was giving everyone a little break during the training I was conducting. Made sure I drank the same amount of water I was drinking at home. When I was out with my co-worker for one meal and he ordered a pizza, I just scraped the toppings off and ate the toppings from 2 slices. Another night we went to Ruby Tuesdays and I had a chicken breast, mashed cauliflower, and steamed broccoli. Another night I had a sirloin steak, sauteed mushrooms and a salad. Another night, chicken and beef fajitas, but I didn't eat any of the tortillas. Another night it was grilled chicken on a caesar salad with no croutons.

I have been going to Curves three nights a week and doing my WATP tapes a few more times a week and wasn't doing that while I was away. I went down to the fitness room in the hotel and walked on the treadmill, though.

Still not sure what I did wrong, but I agree with you, Angel...maybe I have been on P1 too much. I think I am going to ease up a bit on myself for the next two weeks and jump back in January 1.

Thanks again for your words of comfort, girl!!! You rock!!!

Don't be too discouraged Cyndie, you don't know what they put in the food you were eating, it's a crap shoot.

When you weighed yourself I'm sure you weren't wearing the same thing you were the time before and it wasn't the same time of day and a bunch of other factors.

Thanks, Mel.

I didn't weigh myself down there at all, because I always do it first thing in the morning, buck naked. The only scale there was in the Fitness room and I figured hotel management would frown upon me weighing myself buck naked in there. LOL.

So, I waited until this morning and did that, so no...it wasn't a different scale, different time of day, different clothing or anything like that. It is hard to tell about my TOM, because I am kind of in a perio-menopause where it is so darned erractic...but I had it two weeks ago, so I don't think that's it either. I will try to be good today and tomorrow and see if it comes back off. If not, the heck with it...try to keep exercising and move to P2 and see what happens.

I missed all you ladies so much while I was away!!!

Hi Cyndie!!

You did SO good on your trip! wow!

This may sound silly, everyone's different... but personally, if I'm going on a trip, or visiting family, anything that's just remotely stressfull even if it's just a bit, I gain a bit of weight!! (But I lose it effortly the next week).

Like last weekend, we went to my in laws to celebrate xmas early since they are going to puerto plata for xmas, and when I came back home I had gained 4 lbs!!! eeks! To my amazement I lost 1 lbs the first day I was back home, then the next day I lost 3 lbs! I don't know if I retain water when I'm stressed or what not.. but I swear I retain a bit of 'fluff' weight everytime I'm a bit stressed!

Nancy

Eddited to add : I forgot to mention, that normally i'm a very SLOW loser.. (approx 1 lbs every week or two. So losing that 4lbs in one week for me is out of the ordinary hehe)

Keep up the good work!!

Thank you Susan and Maggie!!!

It is amazing how much I consider all of you my friends now, despite never meeting!!! I missed all of you while I was gone, also. You are all the greatest...and I mean that from the bottom of my heart!

Thanks for the compliment Cyndie! You're doing great. I'm going on vacation for 20 days back home. I'm worried. Thanks for the email of all the recipes. I'm taking some with me to make for my Dad. I'm hoping I can persuade him onto the beach. I too will be making my own breakfast, lunch, and snacks but I'm worried about eating out. I'm going to stay as P2 friendly as possible and really control my portion sizes. My husband has also agreed to work out with me and that helps a lot! Keep us posted! I'm really sure you'll lose those couple of pounds by x-mas.

Take care,

Angel

Hi Angel,

You are certainly deserving of the compliment I gave you...you are such a sweetie!

Good luck on your vacation back home...how long has it been since you were home? I bet everyone will be so glad to see you!

I'm sure you will do fine eating out. I thought I was doing fine...but perhaps it was just the disruption to my routine and not working out as much (I didn't go to Curves at all while I was gone). A pound of that is already gone this morning, so who knows?

Have a great time, Angel. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers!!

Hugs,

Cyndie
