Can it get any easier? Please help...

Hi, everyone. I'm thinking of starting the SBD at the first of the year and beginning the planning phase. I've been reading and reading all kinds of info on this board and all over the net, but when I look at recipies, they all seem so complicated to me. I don't like fancy meals, especially because I can't cook! Meals for me now are spagetti, tacos, and beans with corn chips. Can you tell I'm a HUGE carb addict!

Are there any simple and easy recipies for me? I have no money or time to shop for tons of ingredients. I'm a simple gal!

Thanks!

Heidi

If you are looking for simple and easy then this isn't the diet for you.

Hi Heidi,

Just had to pipe in here. I'm a simple gal too (can't cook!) with simple tastes. With any program it is a way of life and need to adapt it to your lifestyle in order for it to work. My understanding is the SBD is a guideline, I've met a lot of people that won't even try the diet because they don't cook like that.

So that said...frozen veggies in the microwave couldn't be easier. I just bought canned green beans 4/$1.00 at the grocery store...what a deal huh?!? If I can boil an egg you can to. I'm not convinced fat makes you fat so I usually buy whatever meat is on sale and fry it up. Again, keep in mind I'm not much of a chef!

There are a lot of free low carb recipes on the net that might adapt better to you. This doctor has not invented anything new that hasn't been around for many years. I say go for it! Low carb eating does work. Once you get thru the first few days your cravings will subside.

Lots of luck!

Sheila

When I first started I felt the same way you do now but with some time and some trial and error I have this down to a science that is no more expensive or time consuming than my WOE before South Beach.

Here are a couple of thoughts for you.

Breakfast is quick and easy eggs and turkey bacon in Phase 1. Then either eggs and turkey bacon or oatmeal and turkey bacon in Phase 2.

Lunch for me is usually either a salad, a sandwich now that I am in phase 2 (I use pita bread usually) but in phase 1 I used lettuce as the wrap, or soup.

Dinner is usually either stew, chili, meatloaf, chicken cooked on the george forman grill with spagetti squash and other veggies on the side. Now that I am in phase 2 I also have whole wheat pasta with meat and sauce.

Snacks are either peanutbutter, laughing cow cheese, or hummus on celery. all of those are bought premade and easy to get to. I also eat yogurt often and granny smith apples dipped in peanutbutter.

These foods are all easy, quick, and whole family friendly.

Just wanted to say a quick "Thank You" to all of you. I am busy making a list of things I will be eating, and ways to incorporate it into my family's regular meals. Thank god I'm on vacation!

Hi Heidi, I started the SBD about 3 months ago and have lost 47lbs. I also have 4 kids so cooking elaborate meals is just not my thing. Here is what a typical day for me was on phase 1:

bfast: scrambled egg beaters or two fried eggs (using pam spray), or two hard boiled eggs I made at the beginning of each week for "rushed" mornings.

Snack: cheese stick

Lunch: salad with oil/vinager dressing, lots of veggies and either tuna or chicken breast strips on top. (I got the chicken breasts strips precooked and prepackaged in the lunch meat section of the supermarket)

Afternoon snack: 30 pistachio nuts

Diner: What ever I made for the family minus the carbs (Just eat the meat and veggies). Ive gotten pretty good and being able to split up our family meal w/o having to cook twice. For example tacos for dinner means gournd lean turkey tacos and mexiacan rice and refried beans for the kids, and a taco salad (lettuce, meat and dressing) for me.

After dinner dessert: sugar free jello

Hope I helped,

andrea

Oh Thank you susan, that was sweet. I am working out like a maniac and think the gym is now officially my second home. I sometimes feel like a woman possessed, lol. I just got tired of being overweight I guess. I love the principals of the SBD and follow them religiously. Here's a question for you though since you seem to be the expert on this board...Starbucks...I love it and its killing me not having my drink. I've been able to switch to a sugar-free vanilla but was wondering if soy milk or nonfat cow's milk was better.

Btw, congrats on your stats too! 130 is my goal weight too...just another 15lbs and I am there, yeah!

Well I'm no expert... but if you are in phase II or III you can add dairy back in.

Thanks Susan...I was just getting a little obsessive about the fat in soy but prefer it to nonfat cows milk. I am still in phase II for another 15 lbs.

Have a great day,

a.
