I just bought the Good Carbs/Good Fats guide if anyone needs a reference from it :-)

Hopefully this will help me stay on track, although I'm afraid it will tell me all my favorite grey area treats are actually off-limits!

The book is essentially an expanded food list. The text in the beginning are excerpts from the main book, and the majority of the book is taken up by foods, listed by category, with their "normal" portion size, total carbs, total sugar, total fat, and the recommendation for whether the food is "good" "limited" "very limited" "avoid" or "allowed" (very few things, like sugar substitutes, that can be used but don't have real portion sizes).

So far, I like it...it clears up some of the grey areas, and it's easy to find the different foods. It has sections for fast foods, fruit juices, desserts, and other things that the original book says to avoid but doesn't really get into. This book gives the stats on each food so you can make a more informed decision about each one.

I hope this helps!

Shan, who wrote the book?
It's sounding better and better.
Thanks for telling us about it.

Nope, the book I have is a companion guide to the original South Beach book. The cover design is the same, and it's written by Dr. Agatston. I got my copy at WalMart for $6 the other day, it was on display near the registers and I figured it couldn't hurt. It's a small paperback that fits nicely into my purse.

It's full title is "The South Beach Diet: Good Fats, Good Carbs Guide: The Complete and Easy Reference for All Your Favorite Foods."

I actually picked up the book yesterday at Kroger for $5.99...the book said it retails for $7.99. I looked through it briefly and it seemed like it would be helpful by breaking all the foods down as good, allowed, limited, very limited, and avoid.
