questions on SB diet from newbie

I am considering starting the SB diet and I have some questions.

1. Besides red wine, are any types of alcohol allowed after phase 1? I like to drink Vodka with diet coke. Can I incorporate this into my diet?

2. Are low carb protein bars allowed? Now there are all types of low carbs bars ( including Atkins) which claim to have only 3-4 grams of impact carbs per serving. Personally, I like the EAS bars. I am on the go a lot so I need something I can bring with me that will fill me up between meals.

3. Can I add fat free milk to my coffee or tea during phase 1? I need at least one cuip of coffee in the AM to get me going?

Thanks

Monica

Right now the only alcohol approved is red wine but my mom drinks vodka and grapefruit juice occasionally and she has had really good luck on SB. I however, wouldn't drink it as it has no nutritional value to it what so ever.

Dr. A is not a fan of the bars at all as they have many artificial ingredients. I have taken to carrying snacks with me that travel well but are SB legal. Apples, small containiers with peanut butter in them, wasa crackers, nuts, and cheese are just some of the things you frequently find in my purse LOL.

You can use land o lakes fat free half and half in your coffee and I wouldn't have made it through phase 1 with out it!!!

Best of luck,

Michelle

Hi Monica!
Welcome to our beach!

Here's something I saved from the Daily Dish (sent out from SBD site):

Drink Up!

Planning on having a couple of drinks to celebrate the holidays? No problem. According to Dr. Agatston, one or two glasses a day of alcohol (except beer) is okay beginning in Phase 2. Just make sure you drink during or right after a meal, since a stomach full of food will slow the absorption of alcohol into your bloodstream - and keep your blood sugar levels steadier. And, of course, you'll want to avoid sugary mixers like fruit juices and regular tonic (opt for diet tonic instead).

Still, not all alcoholic beverages are created equal, since some contain more natural and added sugars than others. Here's a look:

Enjoy, in moderation (limit 2 servings daily):

  • Red and white wine (one serving = 3-4 ounces)
  • Champagne (one serving = 3-4 ounces)
  • Vodka (one serving = 1 1/2 ounces)
  • Gin (one serving = 1 1/2 ounces)
  • Rum (one serving = 1 1/2 ounces)
  • Bourbon (one serving = 1 1/2 ounces)

Avoid:

  • Beer
  • Brandy
  • Port wine
  • Liqueurs (including Kahlua, Bailey's, Amaretto, schnapps, etc.)
  • Sherry
  • Wine coolers (often contain a lot of added sugar)

---------------------------

As far as the bars go, if you really have few options then I say go ahead and eat them here and there (just a few times a week though, do try to limit them.

Susan :)
