Hi Jamie,

I'm fairly new to SBD. And have a tight budget. I make the turkey chili which is really yummy and enough to have on hand all week. For lunches or dinner. Also I make omeletes for breakfast or scrambled eggs with all the ingredients as an omelet and turkey bacon. For lunches you could have tuna on a bed of veggies. Or I have a salad with healthy choice turkey or ham. There are also some great recipes on the board to try for dinners. For snacks...light laughing cow cheese w/celery sticks or with peanut butter but limit to 1 tbs. Also for snack, string cheese. In my first week I was eating a lot of the same things. But since have incorporated other foods. In the first week I just ate (SBD way) what was convenient for me.

I'm sure there will be more helpful responses. This has been my experience so far. Once you get hang of it, it's much easier. Especially when you see and feel so much better!

Good luck,

Jenn

Jamie - I'm so glad you posted this question. I have also been concerned about my budget. There's not much in the way of coupons for fresh veggies, meat or seafood! But I figure, I'm now packing my lunch every day instead of buying almost every day - HUGE savings there! And really thinking about portions and what quantity to buy is also a big savings. For example, I grilled salmon for dinner last night. Previously, the filet would have been a serving for just me, but last night 3 of us ate a proper portion, and had some fabulous grilled veggies, and the chocolate riccotta desert. We were all stuffed, and 3 of us ate what would have maybe served 2 of us before.

But I don't think there's any way of doing this "on the cheap".

I agree with shopping the specials...it is what I do, too. Beans and legumes are really cheap if you are willing to buy them in bags and soak them overnight. I must admit that I use the canned ones for convenience, though. Do you have a "Big Lots" or other closeouts and bargains-type store around? I shop for canned meats (e.g., tuna, salmon), beans, and other canned products there. The cans

And one more note to add...

For small storage containers, I wash and reuse containers from yogurt, ricotta, cottage cheese, etc. They work well in both the fridge and the freezer. I use masking tape and a permanent marker to date and label each item. People laugh at my "yogurt storage system", but it works for me!!
