I have not got on a scale in over a year. I used to live obsessively by them . IT was very unhealthy. I almost became anorexic. Anyway, I get really depressed when I get on a scale. I don't feel like I weigh as much as I do. I work out and lift a lot and have a very muscular type physic. In fact, most people guess my weight to be 20-30 lbs less than I am. I know it should not bother me but the number does. How do I get the courage to get on the scale? If I don't lose or gain ( due to water fluctuations) I will get depressed for the whole day.The darn scale seems to control my emotions! My clothes have stayed the same for the last few years so I know I have not gained any weight. HELLLP!

Another question- Is it okay to snack on the allowed foods if you eat your meals and snacks and are still ravenous? I was so hungry today. I ate several ounces of Turkey breast while grocery shopping and came home and had some hummus. I am under a lot of stress right now dealing with all three of my kids being home for the holidays so I hardly have time to cook a meal for me! Also, I did not buy most of the foods until today so my choices at home were basically limited to chicken, eggs and reduced fat cheese. Anyway, I also had a pice of string cheese for a snack and a few nuts. What I am trying to say is is it okay to eat more for snacks than the book recommends?

Okay , that's it for now

In my opinion (and this is purely my opinion), it is OK to eat as long as you are eating good fats, good carbs, good food. If you are eating junk, then, well, there's a problem. If you are eating just to fill yourself up without being hungry, then that is a problem, too. I try to eat well in the morning and at lunch so I will snack less. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It is the late afternoon that gets me most, it seems.

Do try to form your meals/snacks out of nutritious foods--fresh veggies, LF cheeses, meats, etc., and I think you will be fine. As far as the scale goes, make yourself take that first step, but then also make yourself stop obsessing (I know that is probably easier said than done). And if you're one who may let worry about gaining a pound or two overcome you, then TRY very hard NOT to let yourself weigh in daily.

I was hungry my first day too. My understanding from the book is that if you're hungry - eat! Sounds like you're not getting enough veggies, make sure to include them. We're not aiming for ketosis here, plus the fiber helps fill you up, and you'll be getting lots of great vitamins and minerals from them too.

I don't know what to tell you about the scale. Maybe blow it off? I mean, you'll know by how your clothes fit if you're losing weight and toning up. Some people prefer to go by size not pounds, and there's nothing wrong with doing it that way.

Good luck!

Monica, I agree....if scales freak you out, then blow them off!

Thanks. maybe I will get up the nerve to go on the scale today or tomorrow. Its hard to go by the clothes fit when you lose weight slowly. I know when I went to a nutritionist, I felt the same but sometimes lost 2-3 pounds. My clothes didn't feel much different though.

I do and always have ate a lot of veggies. I just went to the supermarket last night and spent most of my grocery bill on veggies and spices. I could almost be a vegeterain because I hate red meat . That is whay i could never do Atkins, I have a hard time eating fat ( like the fat in bacon and butter) and I love my veggies.

Question: I tend to retain a lot of water. Its been a problem or awhile. I have a hard time drinking 8 glasses of water a day. Is there any natural supplement I can take or food that will help me get rid of the excess water?

Thanks all

Monica, I think that the SBD in general helps to drop excess water retention.

Monica, DON'T force yourself to step on the scale!
