I guess I'll have to mail old bay to all the SBDers on the west coast :)
That would be super cool!
Old Bay is a standard in southern pantries, too. Like Ria said, it's used for boiled peanuts, but mostly for seafood. I was raised on Mobile Bay, and my grandmother and mom always had fresh seafood cooking! (Unfortunately, it was often fried!! LOL!!)
Has anyone here ever heard of a jubilee? Completely off topic, but bringing back childhood memories! It has something to do with the phases of the moon and neap tides, but the fish, crabs and shrimp, etc. make their way to shore in a trans-like state and just get scooped up or gigged (flounder). They can last for 30 minutes, or hours. It's quite amazing. My grandmother would stock 2 freezers from a good jubilee! From what she's told me, this is only known to happen in a few places in the world, and the eastern shore of Mobile Bay is one (Fairhope, AL)
Okay, back to 2004!
