I think my dh should stop phase 1 mabye?

My dh has really tried to support me on the Beach and he had agreed to do it with me. He is alittle over wieght (but only in the tummy the rest of him is very lean), but my main concern (and why I wanted him on this diet) was because of his heart. He has a heart condition know as "idiopathic chronic pericarditis" (basisly a persistant or reoccuring swelling of the sack that is around the heart, the swelling puts too much pressure on the heart and the heart has to strain to beat, the pain he is in when he has an episode is so intense, it is the same pain of a severe heart attack, and it can lead to a heart attack early in life; my husband is only 24 years old). Anyways, he is on day 4 same as me, but he also works nights 4 pm - 3 am unloading freight and busting his butt for 10 hours. Today he can barely function at work, he has no energy and I am worried that if he gets run down then he might have an episode. We did ask his doctor about starting a diet, but the doctors don't really know much about pericarditis and they have run several test on my dh and they can't explain why he has it or what brings on a episode! Sometimes it's physical stress, sometimes emotional stress, sometimes nothing at all. My question is, since he has such a physical job should he maybe switch to phase 2? I know because we are on day 4 of phase 1 we both are expected to be groggy and have no energy, but I worry about him so much. I know this diet will do him good since Dr. A is in cardiology and this was developed for cardio patients, but I just don't know... Now my dh's crew is unhappy cause he can't work as fast and has no energy and that is added stress on him too. He just came home at 9 pm for his "lunch" break and he looked miserable. What do you all think? Any suggestions??
Thanks so much
Jedi

No one with significant medical problems should change their diet without first consulting their own physician. Your husband should return to his usual diet until he has a chance to discuss it with his own cardiologist. Dr. Agatson was treating patients at risk for heart attacks because of obesity and atherosclerosis--not those with other cardiac problems.
I'm in the medical field and recommend this way of eating to alot of my patients. But, I always encourage them to read the book and then discuss it with their primary care physician before proceeding.
Your husband may do well to go right to phase III. He's too active to withhold too many carbs.
