Question about sweeteners
| Fri, 01-09-2004 - 10:07am |
I read the SBD book a while ago, and it's my MIL's copy, so I don't have easy access to it at the moment (I'm getting my own copy this weekend). Anyway - I seem to recall something about using artificial sweeteners (like Splenda) instead of sugar in things like coffee and the desserts, etc. My dh (who is being unbelievably supportive of my efforts), is trying out SBD also, but he has a strong sensitivity to aspartame type products - it gives him horrible migraines. Is there anyway to avoid using the artifical stuff - can we just use regular sugar, just maybe less of it? Any ideas would be appreciated, and of course, if I'm remembering wrong about the book recommending sugar substitutes, please correct me.
Thanks,
Terri

I agree with Dusty, don't keep your thoughts to yourself, I wasn't trying to be mean if I was I'm sorry.
I'm definitely going to look for the Stevia if the Splenda doesn't work for us. The only reason I'm not trying it first is because I'm all for things I can find in the regular grocery store - it's a time saver for me...
I am so very sorry, it was never my intention to make you feel ganged up on. I know how it feels on the boards when it feels like everyone is ganging up on you. Please accept my apology, I just wanted to let you know about other info on the subject. I never ever want to bash people over the head with my opinion...
I felt like I had to post in response because my son is terriblly allergic to that stuff and I know what I went through with doctors and not knowing what was happening to my son and I just thought I would try to help, so maybe other people won't have to go threw what we did.
So Sorry

Hi Terri,
Dr. A. appears to be referring to Splenda in his book on page 26:
"With this meal you can have coffee or tea if you like, with low-fat milk and sugar substitute.
