I figured out if each of us knows of a special tip to lose weight it would be great if they can share it here (pls keep your posts brief as there is a traffic of posts on this board).

from my own experience:

1- running (or doing other cardio) early morning on empty stomach is the fastest way to lose weight

2- Walking in extreme weather conditions( too cold or too hot) requires the body to consume more energy so you lose more weight.

I stay active, drink a lot of water and eat a lot of veggies. I consume "naughty" foods in moderation. I have hobbies that keep me active, so I don't get bored and snack.

Juliara... you may want to be careful with

(2- Walking in extreme weather conditions( too cold or too hot) requires the body to consume more energy so you lose more weight.)

That could be seriously dangerous to your body, especially in extreme heat, with heat exhaustion. Be sure you're very well hydrated.

I find that I need to eat ALL 3 meals and 2 snacks or my body goes into "starvation" mode and wants to hold onto every little thing I put into it. I need to eat well, exercise daily and drink drink drink my water.

I still catch myself thinking "I don't feel real hungry, I should just skip this meal" that is the old, starving myself diet coming through.

I can't get through my run if I don't fuel up before hand. I get in a few miles and don't have the energy to finish. I usually eat 30-60 minutes before my run, then I can get through the whole way. If I'm running 90 or more minutes I'll have a sugar free gel after an hour or so.

DR. A. states that if you are exercising more than 90 minutes it is OK to have a slice or two of whole GRAIN bread...even on Phase 1, to get you through that work out.

Tomorrow I'm running a long one...26. miles. I'm going to put my new SB WOE into action and see how it works with a long exercise session. I'm planning on having 3 eggs when I wake, drive 2.5 hours to the race start and have 2 slices of whole grain bread w/ peanut butter. I'm planning on a gel or two during the race. I'm interested to see how the good carb WOE will work for a long exercise session.

Wish me luck!

I feel really great and get the best results when I'm running. I really have to get back into it.

I bought a pair of jeans today. If obtain my goal they will fit. Something to look forward to. A little incentive. I better get my butt moving!

I find that if I'm not losing weight day after day that being sure I drink my water breaks the plateau.

Also I make a chart that shows where I want to be by week

So that it looks like this:

1/12- (Weight Goal) Jeans feel looser

1/19- (Weight Goal) Try on blue dress

1/26- (Weight Goal) (Some occasion)

Etc. on down to your goal. It helps me focus on where I want to get to. Way down the

list for me is the bathing suit try-on.

If you are outdoors in subzero temperatures, your body will have to keep its 37 C temp. so in order to maintain this temp it will have to burn somwe energy. Remember the old Chemistry formula Energy ==> Temperature? :~) This is a scientifically proven fact.

Also about running on empty stomach, I tried it last summer it was amazing. I was consuming about 2500 - 3000 cal/day and not gaining any weight. (but I was running about 7 hours per week)

I m glad we are having a quite cold winter this year in Eastern Canada so I will be making some use of it!

If you skate it's a great activity and it maximizes fat burning

I'm so happy to say that my snowshoe marathon went better than I had expected. I typically run a road marathon in 4 hours; I figured the snowshoes and trail would extend that time to 7.5 hours. I finished in 6.5 hours! Yeah!

I had plenty of fuel and energy during the run. I was able to do eat a healthy carb diet for these past two weeks and still finish strong.

For breakfast I had 3 eggs, V8, right before the race I had a pb whole grain sandwich, had hot chicken broth at 2 aid stations en route and ate another pb whole grain sandwich that I tucked into my pocket. Post race I ate a HUGE grilled chicken salad and was thinking I wished I had brought along the ingredients for a mocha ricotta creme! Instead I had a FF SF hot chocolate, hold the whipping creme.
