Hey Jessica - I am in the same position you are. I am on day 12 and had lost 9 pounds as of Sunday, but I am up 3 since then. I am soooo confused and more than a little disappointed.

I am hoping to piggyback on your message to see what everyone advises, if that's ok.

I had tummy turmoil (stomach flu) this past weekend and was really too nauseous to want anything to eat, but I tried to eat as much as I could. I thought that between my minimal eating and quickly getting rid of what I ate (if you know what I mean) that I would have lost even more. Instead, the scale showed a gain.

I hope to hear that this is normal - but I am going to hang in there and I hope you do, too!

I may be completely wrong here, but I don't think you are supposed to weigh yourself every day. We do have normal weight fluctuations every day....weigh once a week instead. I chose to weigh on Monday morning first thing...that way, I won't forget when I have to do it....

Christine:

Thanks for writing back. It's comforting to know that someone else is going through the same thing. I am going to reread the menus and try to figure out if I've been eating too many carbs. I have been eating a lot of red and yellow peppers and I'm wondering if there is too much "sugar" or carbs in them- same with tomatoes. Other than that I guess I'm just going to stick it out and hope for the best- I don't really have any other option! I've tried every other diet and nothing has worked (or I haven't been able to stick to it!)

As for your situation, it's possible that you didn't eat enough while you were sick. Maybe a few normal days of eating and not being sick will put you back on track. It's so frustrating, I know, but we just have to have faith that this way of eating does produce results over the long haul even if not over the short term. Your weight loss, though, is a lot- and those are pounds that you don't have to struggle to lose again.

Keep me posted and let me know what happens!

I guess you're right- we aren't supposed to weigh everyday. It's so hard not to, though! I feel like I've lost some weight (confirmed by the scale) but my pants are not any looser. It's just frustating to watch the weight come off every day and that it go up one day. The first few days I lost about a pound a day and that's it's slowed to nothing or a weight gain. Just wondering if there is anything else I should be doing? I'm going to try not to weigh myself every morning.

You are going to have a lot of weight fluctuation during the week and even each day.

It really is nice to know there is someone in the same boat as me. Thank you for your feedback and support!

Now that you mention it, I have been eating a lot of things with tomatoes in them - chicken chili, swiss steak, salads, etc. I will have to cut back. Right now, chili is my favorite food (since my real favorites have been taken away) and I just love all the flavor it has. I was just really getting tired of crunching on lettuce everday.

I, too, will refrain from stepping on the scale each day. I was so thrilled to see that a WHOLE pound was coming off every day, that I couldn't wait until the next day to weigh in again!

I am no longer sick and it is that TOM, so I'll wait until Sunday (when I do measurements) and see if there's been any real loss.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for your reply. It made me feel a lot better. It is not that TOM for me, but maybe it's just a normal thing going on.

I guess I've been wanting to weigh myself every day because I'm so desparate to lose this weight. I have a lot to lose (about 30-35 pounds) and I'm turning 30 next week and feeling totally overwhelmed!

The other weird thing is that I don't really feel like I'm on a "diet". I am satisfied when I eat and when I'm hungry I have something that is on the "foods to enjoy" list. I've also been exercising (3x last week). I guess I just imagined that I would lose a pound a day for 14 days and it hasn't been like that. Hopefully I'll allow myself to be less obsessed with the scale, but it's hard!

You mentioned that you exercised 3x last week - is weight training part of your routine? If yes and you exercise 3x every week you may have gained muscle and not fat - Which is great!

About your scale obession... please stop weighing yourself! You are only setting yourself for a major let down. I would like to know where you read you can loose a pound a day? This in its self can not be healthy?
