Not to be negative,

but I'm wondering the most common reasons people fail on the diet - or gain it all back?

Is it simply, adopt this way of eating, or ELSE you'll gain it back?

I'm thinking the reason people fail on ANY diet is that they think of it as a diet - a short term fix. Healthy eating isn't something you do for 2 weeks or a month...it's about making healthy choices, controlling your portions about 90% of the time with a few treats thrown in here and there.

Also, exercise...I can't sing the praises of daily exercise enough. And I think that falls under 3 categories: cardio, strength training, and stretching. You gotta do all 3 for fitness. Combine that with your healthy eating and there's no reason why anyone can't achieve their goals.

I believe the main reason people fail diets is not the lack of will power or motivation but the mental affects of food restrictions. Knowing that you can not eat that double fudge sundae with a cherry on top makes you crave it even more. When you decide to eat healthy (diet is such a bad word) customize the plan for you - that's what make the SBD great! You are given a list of do and don't which are not that difficult to follow

Also most popular diets are designed for public but not for you. We are all made differently and we all have different tastes. So just because you friend can live off of grapefruit and tomatoes doesn't mean you can or should.

Lastly, many people set themselves for failure the first day by not setting short and long term goals for themselves. Sure we all can say I want to lose 50lbs but that what happens when we don't lose those 50 fast enough we get discouraged. I set short term goals on a regular basis. For example my long term goal is to make sure my summer clothes are too big for me when summer rolls around this year. I set short term goals weekly... telling myself I will go to the gym 4x this week, won't sneak the piece of chocolate...etc

So there are many factors for why I think people fail and it's not just an adoption way of eating

"I'm wondering the most common reasons people fail on the diet - or gain it all back?"

For starter's you can't think like your on a diet. I don't feel like I'm on a diet because I feel I'm not limited like other things I've tried. Heck - I'm eating all the time. Also in the past I always thought I had to eat a certain way or things to lose weight. I'm so glad that I found this way.

I also use to think that I could do it by just exercising and eating what I wanted. If I missed days or even a week of exercising I was not happy with how my body responded. I admit in the beginning of starting SBD I didn't exercise much. I lost weight and was feeling good. But now I'm exercising and I'm feeling exceptional.

So you need a mind based feeling that you want to look and feel good. Of course you can't expect to stay feeling like this if you go back to your old habits. Stick to your new healthy habits. Everyone has slip ups. Were all human but that doesn't mean you've blown it. Start back up where you left off.

This is how I feel about the whole "diet" idea. If I think I'm on a diet....I blow it!

I kinda sort of blew it over the holidays. I had intended to be good, but there was just too much temptation, and for me, too many events to attend ... and my downfall is anything sweet. I had anything and everything sweet. I did a lot of baking myself, for Xmas presents, for my kid's classes, etc. HOWEVER, because I kind sorta knew that I was going to Blow It, I decided not to let totally loose. So I would have my sweets, but I would watch all my other carbs and nutrients. I ate as healthily as possible the rest of the time. Frankly, I was surprised that I had only gained three pounds. Not too bad. I probably would have gained it pre SBD anyhow. I did not have any white or overprocessed flour products, and only once I had pasta. And I really did not miss it. I told myself that I would not deny myself anything, and if there was something I wanted to just go ahead and have it. As a result I think my cravings were satisfied, and I did not go about trying to eat everything else just to avoid a piece of chocolate. For me, that is where the danger comes in. Especially when it is that TOM. If I want something sweet, I try a sf ff pudding, and if that does not cut it I suck on a few dark chocolate chips. I did not have a desire to gorge myself on the whole package, whereas in the past I probably woulda!!!!

I do not see how you can really fail on SBD even with a little "cheat" here and there.
