Subway Atkin's Wraps

Does anyone know much about the new subway Atkins's wraps? I have been told they taste great, but I was wondering about some of the ingredients if OK for the Beach. Here is the text from Subway's site:

On December 29, Subway® Restaurants will offer two Atkins® Nutritionals, Inc.- endorsed wraps for people on carb-controlled diets: the Turkey and Bacon Melt Wrap, with Monterey cheddar cheese, and the Chicken Bacon Ranch Wrap, with Swiss cheese. Both Atkins® -Friendly Wraps, available in the U.S. and Canada, have 11 grams Net Carbs* or less, and the wrap itself, which is made with wheat gluten, cornstarch, oat, sesame flour and soy protein, has only 5 grams Net Carbs*.

Is the wheat gluten OK? I don't want to eat this if it causes a "hunger" reaction later.

Thanks for any info,

My concern with the wraps is the high amount of saturated fats. Bacon, whole fat cheese, etc..

Atkins doesn't watch the "bad fats" like we do.

All The wraps are between:

420-480 Calories

32-40g protein

19-22g Carbs

2-4g sugar

25-27g total fat

9g Saturated fat

55-90mg cholesterol

1340-1650mg sodium

11-12g fiber

The Turkey Bacon is on the lower end of the spectrum in almost all areas (except sodium).

Great point. I had a coworker trying to entice me. He said it kept him full all afternoon. Maybe it is that high fat content.

Thanks for the info,

If I'm not mistaken, I think Subway has low fat cheese that you could substitute, and order either wrap without the bacon, maybe add avocado instead? I read the nutrition facts on the wrap alone...

130 cals

2.5 total fat

0 saturated fat

500 mg sodium

16g carb

11g fiber

1g sugar

12g protein

So it looks as if the wrap itself is no problem... just substitute some of the "bad fat" ingredients with good stuff.

With SBD, you should be able to alter almost any item to work.

My thoughts are they are ok as an occasional phase 2 or 3 treat... you've got the wrap, the full fat cheese, the bacon.

Subway will make any sandwich in the wrap, at least the one I go to does. It doesn't have to be the wraps they advertise. Try one with the meat and lots of veggies, they are great!

I'd steer clear of these even if I wasn't on SBD. The turkey bacon ranch wrap is 460 calories with 27 grams of fat...that's 243 FAT calories, making this wrap over 50% fat. Of those 243 fat calories, 81 are saturated.

Yeah, the wrap in and of itself is okay...only 17% of the calories are from fat. It's all the other stuff they put in it that does you in. I always steer clear of condiments and just go for turkey and veggies. The wrap, as a bread, is a great alternative to the breads that Subway offers.

Thanks so much for the info. I really wasn't aware there was so much fat in those wraps. I am just so happy that the grocery stores, restaurants are getting more into this way of eating---it is almost like they are hearing our voices. Now if we can get them to hear the South Beach voice instead of Atkins.

Thanks again-I think I will pass on those,
