Weight Watchers dropout now on The Beach

Hi, I made lifetime 4 years ago on WW and have been musing on how different the SBD is for me. I didn't stay at lifetime for very long, the weight came back for a variety of reasons, most simply, I stopped the daily journaling, tracking of points, weighing and measuring and slipped back to old eating patterns.

I am Day 8 Phase 1 and have felt satisfied everyday, any cravings I have had were fulfilled by items on the good food list.

On WW I grew disgruntled with the quantity vs. quality mentality I heard at my meetings. Even my leader would tout a light wheat bread that worked out to 3 slices for a point, and I wonder now why anyone NEEDS to have 3 slices of bread.

Baby carrots were the free snack of choice and we ate them by the bagful, and wondered why we were always hubgry.

FF or LF salad dressing, never could find one that tasted good, salads were a chore instead of a pleasure.

Skimping on milk servings to save points for treats or desserts, most of them over refined processed carbs.

And as I got closer and closer to my goal weight I was dealing with fewer and fewer points to spend, Leading to cheating or feelings of deprivations, stalled weight loss.

The Beach has been a very fulfilling and nourishing place to be.

Hi Jill and welcome.

It is a wonderful thing to not have to worry about points, portion sizes - measuring, weighing, and feeling hungry all the time, etc. I have been on every diet out there and have found SBD to be the most fulfilling in all ways.

Welcome to the board.

Hi Jill,

I agree with you on the Weight Watchers findings. I, too, am a lifetime member, for 17 years now (yikes, makes my 39 years seem OLD). I ate so many of the sugared WW entrees and desserts, light Italian bread, low fat-sugared treats, etc. and was ALWAYS hungry. I find the SB WOE makes so much more sense. I was only hungry the first day, and now I find in my 11th day, my portion sizes have become even smaller. I am not always looking for the next snack, the next meal, etc. It has been very rewarding and filling.

I am a "lapsed" lifetime member of WW, too--1995. What I value most about WW is the important lesson I learned about portion control. Back then--in the days before points--the program was much more focused on nutrition, and I had a great leader who, I remember, told someone she should not even be eating a Twinkie, much less trying to figure out how to "count" it! But when I tried going back to meetings a couple of years ago, I couldn't take it when the leader happily announced that low-fat Pringles were a great no-point snack. Healthy eating seems to have fallen by the wayside.

I am about to start phase 2 of SBD, and though my weight loss has not been as dramatic as some people (3 lbs in 10 days), I have learned how much sugar my healthy, whole-grain, organic diet actually contained (well, there was quite a bit of ice cream added in). I will watch those sugar grams like a hawk from now on, and cut out high-glycemic fruits and vegetables. Those are the things that, it turns out, only make me hungrier.

Good luck!

Me too---I am a lifetime member who kept going back every year. (hmmm wonder why?) I found that I don't tolerate "bad carbs" and that is why I could never keep the weight off, some due to me being hypothryroid and some just plain hunger all the time). I find this is much easier WOE and I really don't think about it. I also got tired of sitting in meetings and hearing those lectures--I knew what I was doing wrong--- and how many times can you go over and over the same point?

Love this WOE-The Beach,

Never came close to lifetime - lost and gained the same 6 lbs twice over 6 months of membership (paid in advance on two "Season Passes" so I'd stick with it - ha!), felt hungry and frustrated most of the time, and never felt like I had enough points to get me to dinner even counting points, keeping journals, and practicing - according to WW - the right habits.

I like the Beach. I like all the foods the Beach encourages us to eat. And I've learned enough about portion control of "limited" Beach foods to be successful with it.

Welcome Jill, I was an old WW member and I remember the days when it was healier but when the points came into view the health issues came also. I never made goal but I have 6 more pound on the beach to my goal. My doctor put me on the SBD, as I was complaining that I wanted to lose weight with a plan that I could use for a lifetime. He told me about the SBD and suggested that I go on it also. I've never been happier and healthier. Hugs Maryann
