weird discovery today

I've not started yet, still making my recipe lists, etc to start on Monday. But I have been eating less carbs. Tonight I went to a party and I ate fruit (first carb of the day BTW) and I was very full, I had a brownie on my plate and I wasn't even hungry to eat it, didn't want to eat it! But after my fruit settled a bit I ate the brownie anyway. It's as if I've got habits of eating carbs but how do I break the habit? Yeah I know just don't get the brownie. But has anyone ever discovered that they don't want it yet they eat it anyway? Like something sweet? That's just so weird to me...

Yes, my reply to you is "don't get the brownie."

People eat what is in front of them, whether they want it or not. Until you learn to say no when your brain screams for a brownie, don't have them around.

Check out this article if you want proof:

I find some people are truly opposed to throwing food away. Even plain white rice that would be only a few cents worth. So maybe you have this feeling that you should not toss out food once you have it on your plate. Believe me it is hard to learn to stop cleaning the plate and hard for some to put food in the trash. But I found once I learned to do something easy like white rice, I could even toss an unopened candy bar in the trash. Really I did!

I bet you were thinking, possibly subconsciously, that once you put the brownie on your plate, no one else would want to eat it. I agree, I would not want to eat something once it had been on your plate. So the only two things you could do with it was eat it or toss it out. But a really strong, GREAT SBD person could learn to put it in the trash where it belongs.

Keep this in mind if this happens again. It makes your SBD muscles strong to put sugary foods in the trash.

Just my two cents.

I love to read articles about research and facts, thanks for giving me the facts! I really had no idea that this was true. And I've done it my whole life so this will indeed be something I won't give up too easily. I think if I'd of not even put it on my plate that would have been a great start! So I ate the huge brownie I had on there and even went for more later cause I remembered it tasted so good! So nothing is really better for me. Must be why the SBD works so well for many because you eliminate the cravings for more in the beginning. Anyway, thanks everyone for your help I really do appreciate it. ;-) Rachel

I agree, that is pretty typical in American culture, you eat what is on your plate.

I understand what you mean. I have a VERY hard time not eating something on my plate, or if something looks really good not putting it on my plate. I was raised as an emotional eater... and I have been known to binge eat VERY easliy.

The one thing that I have learned about myself and temptation, is the only way not to be tempted is not to be around it. (I AM NOT SAYING DON'T LEAVE YOUR HOUSE.) If there is a room with food in it, I can't go in that room our I will eat, and once I start I don't stop...When I go out to a bar or pool hall, I don't go the bar.... I make my best friend get me really big glasses of water, b/c if I am tempted there is always that chance I will give in. Also, another thing I learned at WW,is to mentally reherse (sp?) the event. You know that there will be sweets..... BUT play in you mind before going that you will skip that table and enjoy fruits and veggies.... IF you just HAVE to have a brownie, mentally plan to only have a small one or share one or just take a bit, that way you don't feel deprived.

In my 31 years on this earth I have noticed there are 2 kinds of people...

those who live to eat and those who eat to live

My Mom used to tell me to eat more because I just wasn't that interested in food when I was young.

You're right, there are 2 kinds of people like you said! I have always been a "live to eat" person, even when I was a baby. My mom always tells the story about me when I was in my crib I would suck down 2 or 3 of those cereal bottles every night! Yes in the middle of the night I had to have something in my mouth when I was a baby! I also remember when I would spend the night with a friend the thing most on my mind was, "what will we eat?!" I couldn't wait for that part! ;-) And that part of me has never changed. Well, hopefully my new WOE will make a difference and I won't be thinking about food so much! ;-)
