Well, I started SBD today. I had Egg Beaters w/Canadian Bacon and coffee this morning. I guess that is alright. I am kind of confused about salad dressings. Can someone enlighten me on them. Fat Free dressings have lots of sugar. Do we just stick to Olive Oil dressings? Could someone give me some good ideas for olive oil dressing?

Thanks,

Cindy

V8 is okay to drink? that sounds yummy (to me at least). Would i have to buy the low sodium one or the original, or what? And now you got me thinking of checking out the salad dressings on here.

Are we supposed to have a half-cup per day or veggies? is more okay?

Hi Cindy!

Welcome :)

The trick with the dressings is to look for ones with less than 3g sugar per serving. They don't have to be fat free (I'm pretty sure) b/c the fat in them is usually from olive oil or canola oil, which are both good fats. There are a lot of good ones out there with 0-2 g of sugar. I like Newman's Own Family Recipe Italian.

As far as veggies go, I think 1/2 to 1 cup of veggies for breakfast and then 2 cups veggies for lunch and 2 cups veggies for dinner. At least for me, much of that turns out to be a salad, although I put stuff like broccoli, radishes, spinach (instead of lettuce), etc in addition to regular salad stuff.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions you have. Also check out the FAQ here http://www.angelfire.com/mn3/southbeachdiet/faqs.html and recipes here http://sobecookbook.com/south_beach_diet_health_fitness/

I'm sorry to be such a pain here, but now i'm confused. Why do you NEED sodium? I thought that sodium was bad for you. Have i learned wrong?
